A nice dram!
Finally got around to tasting the Fett 12 after a few recommendations over the years. As a fan of highland and Islay malts I enjoy something traditional but a bit different from the others. I found this whisky to be a very easy drinkable one it tastes like a usual highland region malt but has a more varied almost spiced tone that’s both pleasant and soft at the same time.I would certainly buy again even though some of the new pricing on single malts across the board is getting crazy.

A real treat. A whisky drinkers single malt!
Fettercairn was a fairly new distillery discovery to me. It's an East Highland distillery which is fairly unusual! The brand was recently relaunched without too much noise being made about it and the 12 Year Old is the entry point to a full range of aged single malts. The packaging was lovely with a fairly unusual white box, and a beautiful bottle. It's got steams running down the length of the bottle which are meant to represent the water running down the outside of the still. They have a pretty unique and ingenious method of cooling the still with spring water, which apparently lets the lighter vapours and notes rise but the heavier ones fall back down. The whole product feels a bit of affordable luxury and would be a cracking Father's Day or Christmas gift for a whisky lover. Something a bit more unusual than a Glen whatever.Onto the actual whisky! The spirit is aged in American White Oak ex-bourbon barrels, and is light in colour.Very 'fruity' on the nose and palate, oranges and satsumas as well as interesting tropical fruits such as pineapple and mango are more evident. It develops into ginger, toffee and maybe nutmeg, and I've seen people comment that it's a bit like a Jamaica cake which I can relate to. There is also vanilla and coffee. The finish is more fruit, clean almost menthol. The 12 YO is a fantastic whisky, and given how much I'm enjoying this wonderful single malt I look forward to tasting more of the range.Would recommend Fettercairn 12 YO single malt to anyone who would like to try a whisky they don't usually drink. The packaging, bottle and liquid itself are all excellent and the price on Amazon was brilliant!5 stars!

🥃 Fettercairn - 12 Year Old Highland Single Malt
Fettercairn distillery is equipped with a traditional, five ton cast iron mash tun & eleven washbacks with a fermentation time of 60 hours. There are two pairs of stills with an unusual feature. When collecting the middle cut, cooling water is allowed to trickle along the outside of the spirit still necks in order to increase reflux & thereby produce a lighter spirit.Tasting Notes:Nose - Vanilla, honey and malty cereal notes. Orange. Caramel. Apple and pear. Slightly grassy. Some rich chocolate notes in the background.Palate - Caramel and chocolate. Orange. Apple juice. Honey and vanilla and some gentle woody spice.Finish - As a finish, more vanilla, with barely any dry element to round the dram out. Very down-to-earth, easy to process.

Pleasant surprise
Bought this on a whim. I tend to find Highland profiles a little noncommittal in terms of flavour unless sherried but this is packed with flavour. Almost too much flavour....if thats a thing. It does whack you in the face a bit, but after the initial handshake and you acclimatise to each other its throughly enjoyable and complex enough to get tongues wagging.NOSE: Zesty, fresh, but layered over a dark sticky treacle. There's a creaminess, almost white chocolate or clotted cream.PALATTE: Piňa Collada, ginger and toffee. Tropical but with an Irish whiskey sweetness underlying.FINISH: Quite long. Ginger remains with a pinch. The tropical fruit turns darker into stone fruits but still sweet. Imagine spiced Cherry drop sweets.Lovely Malt, will buy again.
