As much art as tool
This Damascus cleaver is a piece of Hand crafted art. It must be cared for by Hand washing and treating with olive oil after each use. The multi layer steel is not stainless and not meant to be. The Damascus process requires great skill and the cutlery must be treated with care and respect. Wonderful piece!

High quality genuine leather sheath of cow hide having belt carry loops
Description says "High quality genuine leather sheath of cow hide having belt carry loops". There are no belt carry loops on the sheath. Loops that are there are horizontal, you need vertical loops for a belt. Otherwise it is a real nice knife and a great value. Just have to figure out how to attach the sheath to a belt.

There's good and bad.
I'll say right off the bat that there's a whole lot I do like about this cleaver... unfortunately, there were some things that really disappointed me and caused a lower rating. The good: The Damascus pattern is beautiful. The blade is really sharp too. Holding this thing in my hand, it feels substantial while being surprisingly comfortableto grip. It's just the right size. Did I mention that it's really sharp right out of the package? The bad: I realize that this is a hand made item and that imperfections go along with that... it's one of many hand made blades I've purchased and I have an appreciation for such things. Having said that, there are some things that shouldn't make it past quality control, like broken, cracked or poorly cut pieces of the handle. The handle itself is almost deliberately uneven to give it that hand made appearance. I can live with all of that and would give it at least 4 stars if that was the end of it, but an essential part of a great knife is its sheath. This is where the major disappointment kicks in. The sheath pictured is not the one I received... not even close. Here's the details on that: The sheath received is not one that can go on your belt. It isn't a nice rich brown color, it's an ugly orange. The shape and details are not as pictured. It is very poorly stitched with a horrible thin thread that is both coming loose and randomly tied off in various places... like the hipster putting it together was using thread remnants that were just lying around. It has two completely useless and poorly stitched, barely hanging on straps wrapping around it. The sheath is far too big for the knife. It just rattles around in there loosely. It looks and feels so cheap that I wonder if it's even leather. It's about as thrilling as sending your well raised kid to college and finding out after a year that they've turned into a smelly hipster. I couldn't be more disappointed in it. It's not what I was promised. It's not what I expected. The pictures make it look better than it is, much like the ones on a hipster mingle dating site. I don't think I could be any more whiney about it, so I'll shut up. The knife is flawed but beautiful. I'm not going to return it, but in going to see if they'll send me the sheath I bought, not the one from a mini mart display case that it was switched with. Seriously, even I know I should shut up about it now... I was just so excited about this thing. Sigh

It could be better.
When I got it, I was a little disappointed because the handle is a little too small. I sharpened it, used it to dice up some steaks worked well enough. Then I went to clean it off... I used a little Dawn on a sponge, gave it a good scrub and rinced it off. I dried it very thoroughly. Not even a week later it's got rust forming on the blade in 3 different spots... So now I'm a bit salty about the damn thing...

Beefy
The knife arrived heavily oiled, which is good since it will surely rust if not properly cared for. I washed it and applied another thin coat of cooking spray with a napkin. This knife is thick and heavy just like I expected it would be. I used it to chop some chicken thighs as soon as I got it. It's very sharp and cut through everything I threw under it easily. It felt a little odd to cut onion because the blade gets thick very quickly it's almost wedge shaped. I don't mind, that's why I bought this knife, But I did end up switching to a normal blade to cut some of the veggies. The handle is very comfortable. I put my index finger into the metal groove on the base of the blade in order for the knife handle to fit properly in my hand. It feels quite natural.I thoroughly enjoyed unnecessary vigorous chopping while preparing dinner tonight.Mostly I liked the way the knife looks and wanted to have it to admire, it's also satisfying to use. I expect to use it on a regular basis.

Nice addition to the kitchen!
Beautiful knife, but did come with a bit of rust. My husband picked up a smoker last spring and has become quite the cook. He picked up this knife from Amazon and we have loved adding it to our smoking/BBQing supplies. Took it to a family get together and everyone was a little envious. All in all, happy with it. May be purchasing other knives to add to our collection.

Great Seller
I appreciate the constant flow of communication I have received from the seller. There are definitely some USPS issues right now and I think we all are aware so that should be taken into consideration right now. The seller did everything they could to be kind and understanding with my questions regarding shipment pickup/delivery and tracking. This order came yesterday just in time for Christmas and I love it. Thank you.
