Into the fires of battle, unto the Anvil of War!
David Annandale does a pretty good job w/ this work. While this go around was pretty short for a WH40k it is an enjoyable read. -SPOILERS- It all starts w/ Vulkan recently having returned to Nocturne after spending time w/ his Father. Vulkan's Legion is still divided and he has not brought the Terrans and the Nocturnes together yet, the former still being out fighting an insane fighting withdrawal against the Orks. The rest of the book centers around Vulkan preparing to save his Terran sons in time w/ the Nocturne half of the Legion and the Terran Lord Commander of the XVIII holding the line against a ton of Orks in the Void and on some miserable planet. Near the end the book starts reading like a remake of the series The Beast Arises, particularly the parts where Vulkan is fighting Orks and Ork Warbosses left and right. Not Bad in terms of plot, pretty decent action, but pretty short read. Read it to learn how the XVIII Legion was Tempered and the whispered rumors about the Terran XVIII before they were joined w/ Vulkan!

One of the better Vulkan stories
I've not been a huge Vulkan fan. This is a good story about the Salamanders, and how Vulkan wanted to fuse them as one Legion, though I have to wonder how many Terrans were left at the end. I think Vulkan is one of the Primarchs that needs more fleshing out, so happy to get this. Not my favorite, but hardly the worse either.

Good for Salamander fans
The Primarch series of books is great and all but all of the ones I read all share a similar flaw; they don't focus quite enough on the primarchs, which is why we buy and read the series. Still a very solid book and it does give a deeper view into the origins of his full legion. A solid read for fans on the most bro of chapters/legions.

Excellent
Began and finished this novel in two short days. Every 40k book I have read, and each of the Primarchs books, have been fantastic. This one is no different. It sheds light on the bravery, sacrifice, and resilience of Vulkan and his Salamanders.Highly recommended.

It was okay
I got the actual hardback edition and received it in good condition. The books concerning the other Primarchs stories are a bit better in terms of length and being center on the Primarchs themselves. I am staring to grow tried of spend money both on physical and digital books that are almost 20 dollars but only have about a little over a hundred pages of the story's content. I want a book that doesn't fit well between the my DVDs and Blu-rays. I would appreciate it as a long time fan that they take the time to produce books that match their monetary value.

A great read with a huge body count
I enjoy most Warhammer books but especially when they are about the Primarchs. The only request I would make would be for these books to really delve into their childhoods and the coming of the emperor. As it stands however the book is a good read, and how can you not love the Salamanders

Great book...
Completely shows Vulcan’s traits as a primarch....absolute fury tempered by complete humility..all the defining traits of what makes the salamanders salamanders.

A good look at the early Salamanders Legion
Really enjoyed this. Like all the Primarch stories, this book tells a story that illuminates the character of the Primarchs and their wider legion. Without going too much into spoilers, this covers the first meeting of Vulkan with his Terran marines and really shows how the two halves of the Legion are two sides of the same coin. Introduces some new characters and has some younger versions of those within Nick Kymes’ HH series

Forging a Legion
A fun read of how Vulkan forged his legion. Action and a look into the difference between Terran born Salamanders and Nocture born Salamanders at the beginning of the Great Crusade. A must read for Salamander lovers.

Brilliant
Just what you would expect from the only Legion to value those it protects, no matter their station. Vulkan Lives.
