Not only is it a great moisturizer, but it is also very soothing to the skin (think of products with aloe to soothe sunburns). Aloe Vera is great in sunscreen for the same reasons why it is great to treat sunburns! Sunflower - Helianthus Annuus Seed Oil They love the sunflower seed oil that they include in their sunscreens. Sunflower is a great moisturizer that has a lot of vitamin E, which acts as a powerful anti-oxidant. Their sunflower seed oil is certified organic, non-GMO, and is sourced right here in the US! Soybeans - Glycine Soja Oil Goddess Garden's certified soybean oil comes from non-GMO crops sourced in the US. Soybean oil also serves a dual purpose as both a moisturizer and as a "fixative" that protects the essential oils they use in their products. Minerals - Zinc Oxide and Titanium Dioxide The active ingredients are zinc oxide and titanium dioxide, unlike many other sunscreens that use active synthetic chemical ingredients such as oxybenzone and avobenzone. When zinc and titanium are used together like in Goddess Garden, they help make sunscreen go on sheer and non-whitening! Lavender - Lavandula Angustifolio Oil Goddess Garden uses lavender essential oils in most of their sunscreens. Lavender gives their sunscreen its wonderful fragrance, but this lovely plant also is a strong anti-inflammatory that is good for minor burns, insect bites, and stings! They love their lavender! Radish - Radish Root Ferment Filtrate Goddess Garden uses radish root as a part of their plant -based preservation system. A fun fact about radish in their sunscreen is that this ingredient is actually alive! Radish root is a "living" lactic acid just like the fermentation process is "alive." This means that they don't have any synthetic preservatives in their sunscreens so you know it's good for you and good for the earth! So what about the other ingredients? Butyrospermum Parkii (Shea Butter) Seed Oil Their shea butter is sourced from fair trade farms in Togo, Africa. Shea butter come from mechanically processed nuts that come from the shea tree. As an ingredients, Shea Butter is primarily used as a moisturizing agent. It is also an anti-inflammatory that reduces damage from airborne toxins and environmental impurities like pollution. Glycerin Derived from palm oil, this certified organic ingredient is a type of moisturizer called a humectant, which actually draws water to the skin. Glycerin also lowers the freezing point of their sunscreens. Glyceryl Stearate Also derived from palm oil, glyceryl stearate is the primary emulsifier in their sunscreens that prevents the water and oils from separating. It also makes their sunscreen less greasy. Polyhydroxystearic Acid This is simple ingredient is a suspending agent that keeps their formula well-balanced.
