Linda Ronstadt - Canciones de Mi Padre: A Romantic Evening in Old Mexico

I needed a placement for one I lost. This one like new. Very happy with it!

I have seen "Canciones de mi Padre" before, and this DVD is excellent. I plan to purchase copies for my friends as gifts. One friend is taking Spanish lessons, so she will appreciate the wonderful regional songs from Mexico.

I SPEAK VERY LIMITED SPANISH AND YET FOUND IT REALLY NOT NECESSARY IN THIS MUSIC VIDEO.IT IS A VERY WELL PRODUCED AND DIRECTED SHOW OF TRADITIONAL MEXICAN MUSIC AND DANCING.LINDA RONSTADT WAS THE STAR BUT SHE NEVER HOGGED THE SPOTLIGHT AND YOU GOT TO SEE A LOT OF GREAT PERFORMANCES FROM EVERYONE,INCLUDING THE MARIACHI BAND AND THE DANCERS AND OTHER SINGERS.LINDA DID BRING ALOT TO THIS SHOW AND PROBABLY WITH A BIG NAME LIKE HER'S WAS ABLE TO ENCOURAGE ALOT OF BACKING FOR THIS SHOW BOTH FINANCIALLY AND SPIRITUALLY THAT IT MIGHT NOT HAVE OTHERWISE GOTTEN.IT IS A WONDERFUL COLLECTION OF TRADITIONAL MEXICAN MUSIC AND DANCES THAT LINDA WAS BROUGHT UP LISTENING TO AROUND HER HOME AS A YOUTH AND SHE GOT THIS SHOW TOGETHER TO HONOR HER MEXICAN ROOTS AND DID A VERY FINE JOB OF THAT.IF YOU DON'T SPEAK SPANISH(OR VERY LITTLE) DON'T WORRY ABOUT IT-NEITHER DOES LINDA AND SHE GIVES QUITE ABIT OF COMMENTARY THROUGHTOUT THE PERFORMANCE TO KIND OF GUIDE YOU THROUGH AND GIVE YOU SOME BACKGROUND TO THE MUSIC AND DANCES. THERE ARE ALSO SCREEN PROMPTS DURING SOME OF THE SONGS GIVING YOU ENGLISH VERSIONS TO HELP YOU ALITTLE.ALL IN ALL A VERY ENJOYABLE VIDEO. IF YOU LIKE LINDA RONSTADT AND ARE AT ALL INTERESTED IN TRADITIONAL MEXICAN MUSIC AND DANCES I HIGHLY RECOMMEND THIS VIDEO.I HOPE THEY MANAGE TO GET THIS OUT IN DVD VERSION SOMEDAY. WITH ALL THE BEAUTIFUL COSTUMES AND MUSIC I BELIEVE IT WOULD GREAT IN THAT FORMAT. UPDATED 11-05-06THIS WONDERFUL SHOW IS ACTUALLY NOW AVAILIABLE ON DVD, I DON'T KNOW HOW I MISSED THIS,I JUST HADN'T BEEN BACK TO AMAZON FOR AWHILE AND CHECKED OT IT TO SEE IF THEY RELEASED IT YET IN DVD FORMAT. I IMMEDIATELY ORDERED IT ON DVD WHEN I FOUND THIS OUT.

i couldn't believe that linda ronstadt can sing spanish! i knew her as a well rounded english singer but i never knew she could sing spanish. the only way i found out was when i bought this original soundtrack of "mambo kings" and 2 of the songs there were spanish sang by linda and i was impressed. so i looked in music stores and found out she has released at least 2 spanish albums. i first bought her first spanish album "canciones de mi padre" produced by peter asher of peter and gordon fame. then i bought her live concert in dvd with the title of her first spanish cd album. both cd and dvd are super great. her renditions of spanish songs are terrific, you wouldn't distinguish if the singer is hispanic or a westerner because the voice and rendition of the songs are very very latin. so i bought her second spanish album and it is a delight. you can never go wrong with linda when it comes to spanish song renditions. superb voice and impeccable rendition, bravo!

Great music video

This is one of Linda's best selling albums, and is possibly the one that is most close to her heart.These are songs and music that she heard and sang growing up and are most associated with her father and family. Her heart is most effeminately in this effort. Even if you are not an overwhelming fan of Linda, this is a genre that any music aficionado so listen to. I have been a Linda Ronstadt Fan for my life. All genres. This is a wonderful visual expose of the period that she shared her Hispanic heritage with the world through not only wonderful performances on her part, but the addition of fantastic musicians and performers (only the top notch) to dramatically highlight the magnificent Hispanic music and culture often overlooked by many music listeners.

Linda Ronstadt's amazing tribute to the music of her father finally comes to DVD. Not only is the show visually dazzling; but her voice couldn't be more beautiful. And the dancing and the sets and Danny Valdez!!! I saw the tour live years ago and am very impressed how well the show has been captured on film. You have never seen a show like this before!In reading reviews about Linda Ronstadt's work I am always surprised when people try to lock her into one era or style. Nowadays when its said a recording artist has reinvented themself.. it usually means they have colored their hair or changed their clothing.With Linda Ronstadt you hear not only her talent but her attention to style and detail. Her phrasing and delivery are so authentic you would think she was from another time or place. What an intelligent and fascinating musical career this woman has had (and has)!!! Her talent and continuous commitment to craft inspires and humbles the rest.

I bought this DVD along with the 2 cds Canciones De Mi Padre and Mas Canciones for my mother's birthday since she loves mariachi music and the classic songs from Old Mexico, needless to say she loved all 3 items and continually listens to the cds and watches the concert on a regular basis. I too found myself loving these songs as well as the concert which is highly enjoyable with anecdotes from Ms. Ronstadt's childhood, not to mention the Mariachi Vargas de Tecalitlan with their contagious and vibrant energy as well as the incredible dancers from Ballet Folklorico de la Fonda which made even my toddler nephew who happened to be visiting get up and dance to rhythm of the music. The DVD has no special features but seeing as it has 21 songs both she and I felt that was more than enough. Great Purchase On My Part.

We all know Linda Ronstadt as a POP and C&W star since the 70's andcan be considered as an important artist (# 52 on the Pop historylist of all times and # 173 on the Country list according to Billboard).Lesser known are her singing abilities in other musical areas such asMexican and American folk music. This DVD shows the different kindsof folk music from Mexico where her roots are from. The music and herincredible voice seem to fit each other perfectly. She really soundsMexican and the set-up is splendid with regional dances. If you likeMexican folklore THIS IS A MUST. If you're not familiar with it tryand see how wonderful MUSIC can be treated and interpreted. It is reallyastonishing on how an artist can be so perfect on any kind of music.Add to that the sound quality (fantastic!) and you will experience one ofthe best musical DVD's around.

I video'd this concert from the tv (in mono) years ago but lost it. I had searched various places for it but never found it till now. Excellent to see it again, so full of energy, emotion, and fantastic singing. Only reservation - its not UK region format (not made clear in product description). I was very disappointed when it wouldn't play through my dvd player/TV, but luckily have just upgraded my computer (windows8 plus new external speakers) and it plays through that and sounds superb, though only small screen. However if thats what it takes I'm still very happy to get it after all these years.

I came to this DVD as a Linda Ronstadt fan, knowing nothing of Mexican music. I expected to be interested in the variety of Linda's work but instead was enthralled by the whole thing. I shouldn't continue to be amazed by the power, subtlety, ability to convey emotion etc which Linda's voice has but I was. Not only that, the sheer enjoyment Linda, all the musicians, dancers and the audience too show is infectious. "Perfect" has been used by another reviewer of this DVD and I totally agree with that comment.A "must see" for Linda Ronstadt fans and indeed for anyone who wants to see and hear an outstanding singer performing songs she clearly loves.

It was what I expected. A DVD of traditional and folk songs from Mexico.I would guess this production to be about 20 years old, maybe late 80s or early 90's,but that does not matter if you want to hear some unfamiliiar but great songs and singing.No salsa here. Great sound and filming.Some great dancing also in a few of the numbers which was a pleasant surprise.Thank you Linda Ronstadt for making this available.
