I already has a CM pepper grinder but I was a little disappointed to find that this salt grinder has a plastic grinding mechanism. I'm going to keep it as the mechanism comes with a life-time guarantee.

Got this to replace a 20+ year-old peppermill my parents had picked up as a gift for me in Germany - was sad to see it go, but it simply didn't grind anymore.I was a bit reluctant on this, honestly, based on some of the reviews (and esp pics) showing chipped and marred mills straight out of the box. I had no such problem.Filled it with pepper straight away to try it out, and it works as advertised (including grinding at different coarse-fine levels).It's a good size, I think (my German mill was even bigger than this, and a bit unwieldy to be honest). Seems well made.My only two observations are that: 1) the wood is very 'flat' (it doesn't have the sort of nice graining pattern my old mill had, or you might see in a quality desk or tabletop) - not too concerned about that, as I'm sure using that type of wood would 3x the cost and/or make this less durable for every day kitchen use; 2) it doesn't seem to hold very much - perhaps the peppercorns got stuck during the filling process, as honestly the mill looks like it should hold far more than went into it (but I have no idea what's actually taking up space on the inside).Overall, I'd recommend to others.

Finally, I found a salt grinder that works well and doesn't rust. I like purchasing specialty salts and needed an easy way to grind it. I have purchased more and have given them for gifts.

Sturdy and looks nice but doesn’t grind very efficiently. The little glass one you get with your peppercorns at the store works much much better :(

I bought this after buying and being disappointed in the Clifton set from Cole & Mason (the DKB Household company that distributes Cole & Mason products in this country was very responsive and good to deal with), mainly because of the inefficiency of grinding and the poor working of the coarseness adjustment, meaning you had to turn the grinder a lot to get a reasonable amount of salt and the coarseness adjustment was close to nonresponsive. But this grinder is just the opposite. I have it set on coarse grind using Himalayan salt, and it sends a wall of salt down with each turn. I've barely tried it on fine adjustment, but it did seem to work well on that, too. The top adjustment screw does loosen gradually with use, but is extremely easy to just tighten back down a bit and this is a total non-issue. It does leave a small residue of salt on your table or shelf when set down after being used, but it's easy to remember to just tap it a couple times to clear most of this before putting it back on the shelf. Again, to me, this is a total non-issue in comparison to how well it works. Filling it is easy, and its size, especially circumference which determines how well it fits in the hand and hence how easy it is to turn, is excellent. The wood that it's made out of gives it good coefficient of friction, so your hand doesn't slip when turning, even when moist. I'd guess the circumference of the base and top is just right for both men and women's hands. It's nice enough looking, just like in the picture. It's a pleasure to have found a salt grinder that works this well.

I am giving 4 out of 5 because of value for money. I fully admit that I knowingly paid for an overpriced pepper mill. However, it's not because I like brand name stuff; I couldn't find anything cheaper that fit my criteria of size, shape, and color. It does a good job at what it is supposed to do. No complaints there. The grinding mechanism is steel, which is nice. The finish on the grinder is smooth and comfortable. It holds plenty of peppercorns for many months of home cooking or perhaps a few weeks of professional work. I expect this to last. Honestly, now that I think about it, I do think I would make this purchase again if I had to, since I plan on getting lots of use out of it. Still 4 stars though, because it only costs this much because it's Cole & Mason. You could find just as good a grinder for cheaper if you aren't as aesthetically picky as I.One tip while filling it: you're gonna want tp use a funnel when filling it with peppercorns. However, the steel rod that goes from the top to the bottom is very wobbly when the cap is off, which means that it's almost impossible to add peppercorns without pushing the rod against the side of the reservoir instead of keeping it dead center. No worries. Just be sure not to fill it will the way up; leave about an inch and a half of room at the top. Then, put the top on and loosely install the top screw (note: there will be tension against that steel rod because the peppercorns are trying to trap it to the sidewall). Gently shake the grinder up and down so the peppercorns rearrange and free the rod to move back to the center. :)I included a photo near other items for scale.

Easy to use,sturdy and with a good mill.

My mother had me order this with my Amazon account and I'm even tempted to get one for my kitchen. Very cute, traditional wooden pepper grinder. No complaints. It's been a few years now that she has it and it's still working just fine so there's that. Not much else to really say. It's functional and as described 👍
