The New Testament

Excellent Course
I have read several of Ehrman's books. They were generally good, but I think the course was much better. I have the sense that some of his books are longer than they need to be. The course covered most of the new testament. The exposition was extremely clear. It helped me to get a better comprehension of the different theologies in the new testament, e.g. that of Jesus, that of the synoptic gospels, that of the gospel of John, that of Paul, those of some of the later writers. I recommend it heartily.

How many angels can dance on the head of a pin?
Professor Ehrman's great erudition and exhausting research reveal and expose scriptures clearly of human origin. I would venture that in a couple of hundred years they will be taken as Greek mythology is today.,I also wonder if mankind will ever be able to face the fact of the finiteness. of life.I am incapable of conceiving infinity, and yet I do not accept finity.Simone de Beauvoir

Great listen for an over view of the New Testament from a scholar's viewpoint
The author is well versed in this subject and comes at it from a secular scholar's perspective, which is clear from the cover and introduction. Those wanting a faith-based overview may want to check out William Barclay's works or Tom Wright. But for an scholarly overview, this is great.

Excellent
This was an extremely well thought out tour of the New Testament as historical documents, seeking to elucidate what we know of the production of these books and letters, and what they actually tell us about Jesus and the early church. It treats the material in a respectful way even as it points out common misconceptions about their authorship and their meaning. It's a fascinating introduction to the most widely read and influential books in western civilization.

Biased
As I listened to this audiobook (which I have returned) I got the unsettling feeling that the author was purposely biased in his interpretation of the information. The more I listened, the more it became obvious. It became grating; the other side of the argument was given no quarter. Having no prior exposure to Ehrman's work, I researched his background and in what appear to be his personal online blog entry of May 23, 2021 he refers to himself as 'both an atheist and agnostic.' His bias is clear, and I'll not listen to any other works he produces.

An atheist gives a one-sided attack on the Bible
Dr. Ehrman explaining the Bible is like a Republican explaining the Democratic party. He doesn't believe it and ultimately he doesn't get it.Don't expect to hear all sides.

Scholarly objectivism abounds
Bart Ehrman's presents nothing but objective analysis of historical, verifiable facts in conjunction with analysis of verified texts of early Christianity. A wonderful primer on the New Testament. Impress your friends! Shut down your loudmouth uncle who never actually read it!
