Excellent design and function. Worth the money.
Trench performs just as advertised on the SD site. You're paying for the design, function and materials. Extremely light, breathable and not a bit of excessive sweat while wearing this over light layering with 30lb backpack trekking in the mountains. The front "apron" covers the pack waist belt and can either be left free or secured on the sides via snaps. When the latter, I felt I needed to readjust the backpack and pull on the trench bottom to fit right but that did not affect the actual rain resistance or comfort. I wore this in conjunction with the matching SD chaps and remained completely dry at times in heavy mountain downpour. Water just glides down well below the waist so can wear any type of waterproof pants.I was able to be just as active as those wearing more traditional waist length Gortex jackets, and the plus side is I can con this in the city over a suit. It looks great.

wonderful
It is very thoughtfully made for backpacking. There is a flap that keeps your waist belt dry that also functions as an easy way to unzip and ventilate. The hood has a small brim that keeps the rain off your forehead and it stays on in wind. The coat/membrane is very waterproof and breathable. The pockets are in the right place for a backpacker and they hold your valuables in an easily accessible and protected place. I have been using it for a long distance hike in scotland for a month and I could not be happier with it. It seems every time I wish the coat did something I find out it does. You look like a sea captain in it, but it does its job so very well.

Excellent rain jacket and wind breaker.
I just spent a a few days in Boston and a week in Acadia National Park. It was the first chance to really use this jacket and it got a work out. Full day of rain walking through Boston and then another few days of mist/rain and wind at Acadia. The jacket not only kept my torso completely dry, it was great as a wind breaker. Highly recommend it.
