Q: What part is made of plastic

After touching and tapping the outside I don’t think that is , it’s powder coated … but the fire effect has plastic on it … everyone loves the tire says how unusual… I’ve had it two years , it blows out heat very quick so can turn off and just have fire effect on ( shut door tom holds in heat ) hope this helps

Q: Can this be placed in a fire place or recessed area ?

Yes you could place it in a recess but the buttons to operate it are on the rear so you would need to move it to access them.
