I was looking for a large multipurpose bowl that was not too heavy but would not easily tip over. I especially wanted a size to permit thoroughly tossing green salads and this fits the bill. Easy to clean and can be used in so many ways

I got this because I needed a deep cover for baking bread. Instead of using a dutch oven I put my boule on a half sheet pan and cover it with a metal bowl. The thin metal allows the heat of the oven to penetrate quickly while keeping moisture in so I get a good rise. The problem was my previous bowl was shallow enough that my loaf would stop rising when hitting the bottom of the inverted bowl. I needed a deep bowl that would fit inverted in a half sheet pan. This bowl is perfect! I am thrilled with it.Oh, it holds a salad just fine as well.

I'm sure all of us have some component in our kitchen that we know is outdated. For some reason or another though we try to prolong its life whether its for its emotional value or our own frugal-ness. For me this outdated item was my ceramic bowl set from over 20 years ago. The bowls were a housewarming gift and they truly looked their age. They had started to chip on the bottom which worried me that eventually some ceramic chips would be found in my food. Yikes! I knew it was time to upgrade.This bowl is fantastic. It can hold a ton of anything. The best feature of this large bowl has to be its deeps sides. I can truly whip, fold or mix anything and the bowls high sides keep the ingredients I'm mixing inside the bowl. Its easy to clean and can pour out of consistently. The flat bottom is very well designed and keeps the bowl from rocking around even on my slick granite counter top. The bowl is incredibly durable and the metal is quite thick I'm sure this bowl shall outlive me.Overall, I cannot say enough great things about this bowl. I know it sounds positively silly to say that a bowl has actually made me happy but dammit its true! I actually find myself smiling when I pull this bowl out of the cabinet. I'm sure some of that is my remembering how long I tried to make my old bowls last for so long and kicking myself for it. If you're on the fence about buying this product don't be it's a slam dunk and you will love what you're getting!

I rated the 12 qt too...similar, but even better/more useful. Large, not too heavy. I have some arthritis in my hands and the lip gave me that extra safety for not dropping it when I was carrying it and for holding onto it during use. And it did not have the problems I read other bowls had (e.g. flexing, bottom flimsy, etc), or the problem with very heavy bowls that I have trouble lifting up to move or pour out ingrediants (like pouring out the stuffing mixed into the pan to cook).I used it for multiple jobs...mixing up large amount of sweet potatoes for a casserole (I think I had 10 baked sw. potatoes), mixing up a large amount of stuffing, mixing up the filling for a large apple torte. The extra depth (compared to my regular large mixing bowl) is SO NICE to have...no spilling over the edges as you try to turn over ingrediants, which can now be mixed more quickly without concern. I would use it for other holidays, I just got it back out to make a double batch of muffins. I'm sure I'll find more uses for it Christmas-cookie-making time.
