Great movie
A great movie with a twist. The question of who is behind the whole thing, is answered at the end. The fight of men that have been cyborged and the quadriplegic man with an implant is outstanding. A film worth seeing.

Action Packed to the Extreme!
This movie takes place in the near future and is full of action & suspense. I really enjoyed it. It is about a man whose wife is murdered and he is shot in the back of the neck, doesn’t die, and is paralyzed for life. He gets a top secret computer chip installed to repair him and it gives him the ability to walk again, gains super-abilities & knowledge controlled by Artificial Intelligence. He then seeks the ultimate payback. Completely awesome!

A Very Near Perfect Dystopian Tale - A Warning
Elon Musk: "Humans must merge with machines or become irrelevant in AI age..." (Beware of Musk)Upgrade is a very well made Dystopian tale , warning of the existential threat posed by humans merging with AI technology - known as Transhumanism. Notwithstanding that the AI technology is intially intended to benefit mankind ....or is it its true intention ? (Enslavement/human extinctiin?) This seems to be the complex questions that are raised when delving into "upgrading" human beings.Once the AI chip is implanted into our protaganist it becomes clear that he has become the host of a self conscious AI that refuses to be subordinate to its host . All along it turns out that the AI was running everything: able to manipulate, and control all the humans through its ability to predict human behavior and reaction. At any rate although Act I was a bit unpolished and clunky , the rest of the film more than made up for it .The message of this film should not be taken lightly. Suprised it came out of US cinema. This is an Anti transhumanist message against merging AI into human bodies .STEM IS NOW IN CONTROL OF YOUR BODY - you've been forewarned !!I was surprised that an intelligent film came out of Hollywood compared to all the other mindless low IQ trash . Buy this film !

Pretty Much Enjoyable
It's an Australian-Pretend-American production, with all the familiar hallmarks of such--small budget, poor cinematography, formulaic direction, modest acting. Still, it is enjoyable--with some interesting CGI/FX.One of the first devices in a low-budget production toolkit is to bombard the viewer with loads of 'close-in' shots that occlude poor set designs by keeping them out-of-focus. This, of course, drives any decent directors and cinematographers nuts, like it must have here.Apparently, the attempt is to 'make an American-style blood & guts hero movie', but, to anyone discerning enough, it fails. Virtually all of the actors stumble with their American accents, letting their 'strawlian' peep through--some don't even try to pretend--and when the acting isn't dramatic enough, it is over-dramatic and uneven at best.Kudos for finding enough empty streets and highways in Melbourne to let them drive on the right side of the road--what a needless pain that must have been. That said, the writing is quite good, with an interesting plot twist and a decent wrap-up.I wish they would have just copped to being an Australian film and dropped the off-putting insincerity. There are many great Australian films out there and this could have been one of them--especially if Film Victoria had upped their participation.I know we've been-there-done-that with regard to Mad Max, but if the Upgrade producers would still insist on using American accents, then why not use one of the best pieces of Max Magic that made the first Mad Max film so appealing to American audiences--use the often bizarre, spaghetti-Western-style American voice-overs that added that indelible sense of other-worldliness that helped elevate Max to cult status. I have seen both versions numerous times, and the dubbed-over voices version is hands down the best, simply because of it's 'bizarreness'.In summary, this should have remained an 'Australian Film', dropping the agonizing pretense and spending the money on better sets. Even so, the film is worth watching--even if the careers of the actors and crew aren't.

Not A Bad Movie But Very Similar To Venom!
This is a good movie but is similar to Venom which Tom Hardy did. Even the main actor (Logan Marshall-Green) looks a bit like Hardy. Still is a great show. Worth watching at least once, even to buy at this very low price. Cheapest around & very quick delivery!

Not man. Not machine. MORE.
Upgrade flew right under most people's radar on release which is a massive shame because it's pretty amazing! Especially when you know it was made in Australia with an entirely Australian crew! Up until, and pretty much after, the Matrix films Australia has not been known for it's film making ability. I grew up watching Neighbours and Home & Away right from their first episodes so I mean no offence, but man, their entertainment output sucks! I seriously don't see the appeal of Mad Max.This lovely new Limited Edition from Second Sight is pretty great. I'm sad to say mine arrived a bit dented which annoyed me but still, the case, disc, book and poster are undamaged. Please feel free to check out the link to my YouTube channel in my profile bio for a closer look at the outside of this box set.The set contains the film on Blu-ray with a really nice transfer. To me it looks the same as the U.S Blu-ray version which is no bad thing! The special features kill that version off with an audio commentary with director Leigh Whannell, an interview with Leigh Whannell, an interview with producer Kylie Du Fresne, an interview with cinematographer Stefan Duscio, an interview with editor Andy Canny and an interview with fight choreographer Chris Weir. The booklet is 36 pages long and the fold-out poster has the same art as the box cover.I hate spoiling films so I will just say that Upgrade is a very entertaining Sci-Fi/Action/Drama/Horror with a tragic edge! Nice twists along the way and once it gets started it really doesn't stop. Leigh Whannell is growing into a decent director with The Invisible Man coming up which looks pretty neat and Escape From New York after that. I hate remakes but maybe he can do something with it. We shall see..... He did create the Saw and Insidious franchises so he has some ability!
