Zoo Med Tropicsun 5500K Daylight Bulb for Aquariums, 18" L, 15 Watts

Plugged it in and turned it on. Only time will tell if it works any better than the Aqueon Full Spectrum light that I pulled out of it. I have had the hood for about a year and wanted a nice, bright light. This one was cheap and seems to work. There are some plants in the tank, but the old light was growing them fine - I expect this light to do the same. I have not noticed the tanking being any brighter or any real change. Will do my best to follow up in a few months after I have given this bulb some time to function.

I use it for planted terrariums & on my indoor plant shelving. It works great with the shallower terrariums, and the shelving units. I have low- to moderate-light loving plants, and they grow really well with this. For deeper terrariums or higher light plants, would recommend flood lighting, or something with higher lumen output. I'm finding my high-light loving plants will still stretch under this light even as close as 12" from the bulb (note the sedum, second little plant from the left, stretching. It is usually a ground-cover plant that grows close to the soil).

it is a great lighthowever I may change toa light which brings out morecolor in the planted aquariumwhile this light does its job fabulously,it casts a green sheen which isnot bad. however I would have likedto see more color and brightness :)

I found that I had way more algae growth with these bulbs despite the fact that I do weekly water changes. I felt like I was scrubbing constantly and my snails weren't keeping up. They definitely emit more of a yellowish color which did not look good with my white and bi-colored goldfish (it made them look yellow instead of white). In my tank with gravel, it brings out the yellow color in the gravel and in photos it kind of looks like canned corn instead of rocks. I used to use these all the time when I had more plants in my tank as it seemed to help their growth more than other bulbs, but if you're keeping plastic decorations or bare bottom I wouldn't recommend these lights as they seem to accentuate all the flaws you might not otherwise notice.

Had it about a month now. Good so far.It has a nice white color. Not too bright but not too dim. The plants seem to like it more than the colormax bulb we used before. Very cost effective compared to bulbs in stores here.Would recommend and would buy again.

This makes my tank look a little yellow and my fish aren't as pretty. That being said, my plants look great! they have been suffering for a while, but now they all look fabulous. I swap this bulb out for my old one if I know I am having guests, but normally keep this one on.

The light spectrum eventually draws algae in an aquarium once the bulb gets old. Better to buy the LED hood.Its more expensive, but the life is much longer and cheaper long term.

I find these bulbs work just fine. They are bright and the daylight 5500K is nice in my aquarium. I see no different between these bulbs and the more expensive ones, except the better price. Nice to have a competitor to the brand I've always used in the past.

Arrived quickly, reasonably well packaged for protection. Works well in the aquarium givinf a warm glow to everything.

Great light and really helping the plants in the tank grow well.
