Great variety to choose from
This is the first greyscale book as well as the first Alena Lazareva that I have bought. I really wanted to try greyscale but I was a little bit intimidated by it and wasn't sure it would be too difficult for me. It is quite the opposite I am happy to say. It is fun and also quite different to other books. I am not great at shading so this is ideal for someone like me as you don't need to shade much due to the greyscale finish on the illustrations.I think the artist is very talented and her drawings of faces are very pretty and have a lot of character. The back cover of the book (see pictures below) have a small example of what you can expect to receive inside the book. There are some close up faces, lots with images of food, including cupcakes and more. There are 2 sets of 23 different illustrations plus 7 bonus pages from her other books. They are all very nice and they look like pencil sketches. The pages are not perforated but there is a dotted line as a guide to help you when you remove the pages from the book. The paper has the feel of 80 gram regular copy paper and the printing is light grey with some parts slightly darker grey. All the images are to the right hand side of the book with the back of the image being blank. I used alcohol ink pens but after I completed my colouring I thought it would be better to use colouring pencils, I think either work well though.I have added photographs but I will add more when I have coloured them in.

A very pretty idea for drawings
A very pretty idea for drawings. Alena draws such pretty faces, unlike some artists, and it's a joy to colour these in.

A perfect colouring book for those with a sweet tooth.
Sweet Dreams by Alena Lazareva has 23 grayscale illustrations of which there is a duplicate set of copies and there is 7 bonus grayscale illustrations from Alena's previous colouring books (there is no line-art illustrations in this one). The book is A4 in size and glue bound with a glossy coloured cover of one of Alena’s originals, the illustrations of which is inside the book for you to colour. It is self-published on Amazon Createspace and this means it is quite thin copier type paper. The pages are one-sided so if you wish to use markers, just use a spare sheet of paper behind the one you are colouring in case of bleed-through.The illustrations however are beautiful grayscale versions of Alena’s stunning digital paintings . Some find the idea of grayscale daunting but it is actually easier than colouring line-work as most of the work has already been done. You can just simply colour over and allow the highlights and shadows to show through, or you can choose to use three colours of light, medium and dark. It can be as easy or complicated as you wish it to be. If you’ve never tried grayscale I highly recommend at least having one book in your collection to try it out for yourself, and this would be an ideal one for beginners as the tones and highlights are well done; it’s not too dark or light and you can still see lines to follow unlike photographs which I find harder as some of the picture can be out of focus.Alena’s colouring books feature her wonderful fantasy art, this book however concentrates solely on those with a "Sweetie" spin with treats such as cakes, fruits, ice cream, teapots and cups, chocolates and sweets, cocktails and ladies whom are often wearing said cakes and sweets. It is for this reason alone every ‘serious’ colourist should have at least one grayscale colouring book as they are a great teaching tool.A perfect colouring book for those with a sweet tooth.
