Tuffy2007+ JK Hood Lock

A simple, yet excellent way to secure your Jeep Wrangler's hood! Installation was fairly easy, no drilling, or any permanent modifications required. Instructions are decent. If you're looking for a hood lock, this is a good choice over locking hood latches for a few reasons:1. Locking hood latches can be very finicky in terms of getting the amount of clamping force needed (Unless the locking hood latches in question have a means of adjustment.) 2. Because you don't have to change the stock hood latches with this product if you don't want to—you are free to use whatever style of upgraded hood latches you choose, without fear of compromising your hood security. 3. Because this product doesn't replace the factory functionality of the Jeep, you don't have to worry about any 3rd party devices failing (like an aftermarket locking hood latch) and compromising safety. (This lock simply prevents the factory hood catch from fully unlocking. Unlocking the Tuffy lock allows the hood catch to fully release so the hood can be lifted up as it normally does.)Very robust construction. An optional keyway protector can be bought to prevent dirt intrusion. The Tuffy lock can also be removed if needed to return your Jeep to fully stock.Note, the instructions direct you to detach part of the factory wiring harness loom that runs across the top of the radiator support, but I found this isn't necessary. I was able to gently pull the wiring out of the way while still attached. Once the Tuffy lock is in place, the wiring harness should not interfere with the lock mechanism.---1 Year Update:---The lock has performed well. The only annoyance is there is a hex nut that retains the lock body in the housing body that had worked loose on two occasions, even after tightening. There is no way to access that nut without removing the whole assembly from the Jeep and reinstalling it. It's not hard, just an annoyance. Theoretically, if the nut loosened enough it might jamb in the housing, though this not not happened.My solution is before installation, put a drop or two of Blue Loctite on the lock body threads, and then tighten the nut securely. So far it has not loosened again.

Any hood lock made for a Jeep Wrangler needs to come with a cover and this one doesn’t. So, you have to buy the lock cover separately and it’s of poor design (I left a separate review on that product).Otherwise, very good design, solid materials and craftsmanship, and relatively easy to install if you’re a typical Jeep owner. I love that I didn’t need a rivet gun or have to drill into my Jeep to install it.Also, I didn’t have to disconnect my turn signal lights or my wiring harness clips to install it (like the instructions said I’d need to do). I taped each side of grill to the Jeep to ensure there was no tension on the turn signal wiring harnesses and I was able to *just* wedge the product behind the top wiring harness.Hood is now held down super tight and there’s no hood flutter when semis go by.

I am giving it 4 instead of 5 stars because Tuffy does not make if clear that there is a cam lock cover available as an option (which would be a pain to install after the unit is already in).The instructions are not great, but went on smoothly with the help of some youtube videos. The only complaint I have is that the kit does not include the cam lock cover. A cover is important since the lock sits in the front of the jeep taking the brunt of road conditions. Unfortunately, you might not realize a cam cover is even available as an option until after you have installed this (as I didn't). Also, the optional cam cover is not sold on Amazon as far as I can tell. To install it now would mean going to another retailer, and taking the entire unit out to install. I would have much preferred if Tuffy just packaged with the lock cover and charged a little more rather than it being an option (which now too big of a hassle to install). I guess a piece of black tape to protect it from dirt, etc., will have to do.

Got a Jeep Unlimited Sahara 2012 couple of weeks ago without an immediate garage space to park the vehicle.The dealer offered this same product for $250+ including labor.. to that I say, NAY! I will install this for far less than that of the dealer's "best" quote.The guys at internet-sales sent it to me within 36hours. although it was estimated to take a lot longer.Very pleased with the shipping speed and method [ups, sign required]As far as installation goes, it would've been 20 ~ 30 minute project.Easy steps, open hood- take off front grille body clips- take the lower clips after- remove the turn signal wires- then use the provided thread cutting screw with an 1/2" socket and thread the radiator bar- voila, it is ready to be mounted.after mounting all the screws, tested the product as the instructions on the paper suggested, and it held up pretty well.keeping a key on me at all times, one at home for emergencies.Overall, it was a painless experience for me. Fast shipping, easy enough installation, and a peace of mind knowing that my hood won't be open to all the world to gander through.Definitely suggest it for any new Jeep drivers.

This lock was incredibly easy to install and just as described. It fit on my 2015 Wrangler Unlimited Sport perfectly. I'm a first time Wrangler owner, and a novice when it comes to working on cars (I'm getting better!), and this was a SUPER easy install for me. The grill is much easier to remove than I anticipated (videos online if needed). Once the grill is off, move the tube that houses the wires out of the way, and then it's just a matter of using the bolts to cut threads in the existing holes and then secure the hood lock in place per instructions. No special tools required. I just used a flat head screwdriver to remove the grill plugs and a ratchet and 1/2" bit for the lock bolts. Replace the tube and grill and you're good to go! Now I feel better knowing my Wrangler is protected (since it sits outside), and I plan on hiding the lock with a grill guard. Thanks for this product! It's way less expensive than others and I don't mind that it's not keyed to my ignition.

Install took less than 5 minutes. As someone who works with steel for a living I am impressed with the build quality. The only downside is that it doesn't center in your grill and makes it look a little strange. Also the flap cover that you have to buy separately is nigh impossible to find and very overpriced for something that should be included.

Easy to install,works good.It would be better if it had something to protect the key entry so it would not get water or dirt into the mechanism.I realize it has the regular opening flap but I do not think that is enough.
