Every episode from each of the five 'Doctor' series which graced British TV screens throughout much of the 1970s, including 'Doctor in the House', 'Doctor at Large', 'Doctor in Charge', 'Doctor at Sea' and 'Doctor On the Go'. 'Doctor in the House' follows the exploits of student doctors Upton (Barry Evans), Waring (Robin Nedwell), Stuart-Clarke (Geoffrey Davies) and Collier (George Layton), as they negotiate the ups and downs of life at St. Swithin's Hospital. 'Doctor at Large' follows the newly-qualified Doctor Upton (Evans) as he takes his first steps in his new career. In 'Doctor in Charge', Waring (Nedwell), Stuart-Clarke (Davies) and Collier (Layton) begin to climb the career ladder, while in 'Doctor at Sea', Waring (Nedwell) and Stuart-Clark (Davies) leave the stuffy confines of St Swithin's hospital and take to the open seas. Finally, in 'Doctor On the Go', after their sojourn on the ocean waves, Duncan and Dick return to St. Swithin's, only to find their nemesis, Professor Sir Geoffrey Loftus (Ernest Clark), still in charge.

Just what the Doctor Ordered
It is great to see all the wonderful Doctor series in one collection. Some of the scripts, particularly the ones by Graham Garden and Bill Oddie are ropey and childish but the ones by Barry Cryer, John Cleese and Graham Chapman are surreal and highly amusing. The late, tragic Barry Evans was perfect as the innocent 'sensible' one whilst the late Robin Nedwell provided an excellent counterpoint. The second series is marred by the ITV 'Colour strike' when the bolshy unions decided to ban colour broadcasting over some complaint or other. They even went as far as to removed the colour 'decoder boards' from the cameras. So we have most of this series in black and white. While this is at a good price, treat yourself to some good old fashioned TV comedy.

Very funny
This box set is extremely good value for the price. I am slowly working my way through the DVDs. The Doctor series are still very funny after all these years and don't seem dated. My only moan so far is that on the first disc of Doctor at Large the episodes are in black and white and in colour on the second disc. It is strange that the first disc is in black and white when all the episodes of Doctor in the House are in colour. So far I would recommend this box set.

British Comedy at it's best
The complete TV series in one place. The only caveat is that you must have an All Region DVD player to view it. It is a hilarious series that follows Medical students through their schooling and training and continues after they are in Practice.A lot of the writing credits are by Monty Python members, so it is pretty offbeat and irreverent at times. This series was on TV here in Canada back in the day, and it is great to revisit it now. If youlike Brirish comedy you will like this. Great character development and stories. No commercials. Enjoy.Craig

So glad to have it all together finally
Grew up watching this in Canada and it was always one of our favourites. So glad to have it all together finally. Will be looking for Dr Down Under to complete the set - not sure why it isn't included here. The quality is good, even on our multi-regional dvd player - although the words don't often match the picture, this is probably due to our player. It was delivered to me here in Vancouver quicker than many local orders and for a great price too.

A favorite from my childhood
I enjoyed the several "Doctor" TV series very much when I was a kid back in the 1970s and they were shown late on Saturday evenings on Iowa Public Television alongside "Monty Python" and "The Goodies." I enjoyed these series so much that I went on to read the books and later to find the films and radio serials. The last two series were never imported to a station I could receive, so this boxed set was an excellent opportunity to find out what I had missed. After some minor troubles setting up my Macintosh to read Region 2 DVDs, they played well enough. There is a strange wavy box artifact in the upper right portion of my screen in some episodes. This is probably a software thing that wouldn't happen with a dedicated Region 2 DVD player. VLC Player worked better for me than the DVD app that comes with the Snow Leopard operating system. This is a bare bones collection containing the episodes only, with no special features and no music track on the main menu. I find menu music annoying, so I did not miss it. The transfers are decent, but there was no digital cleanup from the original negatives, so scratches are visible.Don't be surprised when you find the first few episodes of "Doctor at Large" are in black & white. These were made during the famous "Colour Strike" labor dispute."Doctor Down Under" is not included in this collection. I presume it is under a separate copyright. All in all a very good deal. This was my first order from Amazon UK and I was quite pleased with how little trouble is involved with placing orders from the US.

I loved the series when it was on TV and I still do. Had to get a new zone free DVD player to play the PAL version, but it is worth it.
