Robert Clouse directs this martial arts action film starring Bruce Lee, although he died halfway through the making and it was completed using doubles and released years later. It follows the story of a successful martial artist who refuses to join a crime syndicate and has a contract put on his head. The assassination attempt fails but his death is broadcast to the world to throw the criminals off his trail. Unfortunately, the hoods do not believe the stories and make him face a series of adversaries in one-to-one fights to save the life of his girlfriend (Colleen Camp).

The Bruce Lee film that never was
The Bruce Lee film that never was a Bruce Lee film. The mismatched stock footage, the terrible stand-ins and other bizarre set ups used throughout this terrible mash of a movie have become almost legendary. Not too mention the bad acting from the main Lee stand - in and the awful fighting cries as dubbed by one Chris Kent. Then we have Colleen Camp (playing Bruce's love interest) doing the worst bit of playing hysterical in a film that is actually hysterical . Just watch that scene between her and Dean Jagger in the hospital garden and you'll know what I mean.Gig Young, a once well respected Hollywood actor - who sadly later became an alcoholic. Here he proves it by slurring his dialogue throughout his scenes in the film. Sadly, not long after finishing the film, Gig shot dead his girlfriend Kim Schmidt, he then turned the gun on himself. Kim also happened to be credited as a script writer for 'Game of Death' and the two had met while making the film. Much of the original fight footage Bruce Lee shot was never used in the 1978 version. I tend to think its because the Director Robert Clouse knew that Lee was a better action director than he was.Just take a look at the unedited version of the fight with Kareem Abdul Jabbar featured in the extras section. That P.O.V shot from the rocking chair is sheer genius. Here in the UK we only got two actual Bruce Lee fights featured in the film. The Lee/ Inosanto Nunchaku clash was cut by our censors on its release. Thankfully its all here in this Blu ray edition. And what of the Blu Ray? Well the quality for a Blu ray is actually pretty poor. There is no way this film has under gone any remastering or been up- scaled in any shape or form. Its the same standard as the Hong Legends release. For all its bad points I have given the film three stars only because this is the uncut version. Looking back, Golden Harvest should have left it alone and released the original footage as part of a documentary. That then would have been viewed as a genuine tribute to Bruce Lee rather than this distasteful mess.

Viva Bruce Lee!
The movie is what it is - i can't say i'm a fan honestly - it has 11 mins of new footage of Bruce for the film with bits from his earlier films,, along with a lookie likey.I like Bruce a lot and with so few titles available of martial arts Bruce - it still rates as a must have. Also, The extras do elevate this release quite a lot imo.If your new to Bruce, definetly try this later.Chronological is best imo -Big BossFist of FuryWay of the DragonEnter the DragonGame of Death.if you want just one - Enter the Dragon (though you honestly can't go wrong with any of the others either.)Thank you peeps!

Breaks my heart every time I watch it
This film had the potential to be the greatest film Bruce ever made in my opinion. Bruce had started making this film when Warner Brothers approached him about making "Enter the Dragon" so they stopped filming for Game of Death and Bruce left to film Enter the Dragon. During this period Bruce lost his life (R.I.P.) and Game of Death was never finished. So 5 years after his death golden harvest decided they where going to put the original footage together with some truly awful lookalikes (no disrespect to the actors but they looked nothing like Bruce and although they were competent martial artists they are nothing on the master) as stand-ins to complete the movie. The original plot was scrapped and this rubbish was then produced. I felt this film was a massive mark of disrespect to Bruce Lee because of its terrible production which includes actual footage of Bruce Lee's funeral! The only reason I gave it 3 stars is because the parts with the real Bruce Lee in it are truly magnificent so watch the last 40 minutes and ignore the rest.

They should have just released the fight sequences...
Being a Bruce Lee fan, and having watched his other 'four' films, I was especially looking forward to Game of Death; the yellow jumpsuit, famous nunchaku fight sequence, and Kareem Abdul-Jabbar fight. I had read that, due to Bruce's untimely death, there had been some troubles with making the movie, and that some scenes were filmed using a double for Bruce - fair enough. What I didn't realise was the shocking extent of the double(s) involvement (yes, I'm sure there are several doubles). Poor attempts to hide faces, use of footage from other Bruce Lee films, and even copy and paste cutout jobs make this film very difficult for any Bruce Lee fan to watch. In-fact, I found myself skipping to the fight scenes, so that I could enjoy what I had paid for and get the rest out of the way. I won't even touch upon the footage of Bruce Lee's funeral (which I elected to miss, thankfully).I don't know Raymond Chow, and have no idea of his principles or character, so I can't judge him, but I can say that I believe this film to be a disgrace, and I can't imagine Bruce Lee wishing to endorse the release had he have known what it would be.I would have happily paid the asking price for the Bruce Lee fight footage, I don't know why they felt the need to make a very poor film out of what they had.Bottom line: If you are a fan, then you have to buy it for the fight scenes, but don't expect a film you'll want to watch again and again. Cringeworthy.

Fantastic copy
This is the best edition of this movie I have ever seen. Dual format, reversible cover and and booklet, what every Bruce Lee fan wants and at an amazing price. Better quality than the boxset version.

Only For The Amazing Fight Scenes
Terrible film overall except for the amazing fight scenes Bruce Lee filmed before his death. I upgraded from the DVD to Blu Ray. 👊🏼

hit & miss
some great moments but in other ways truly awful. In fact some bits were just as cringe worthy as I remembered from seeing this at the pics. Time has not improved the cheapcash in nature. However the fights (particularly Bruce of course) are excellent as are the extras

Game Of Death
The movie is quite entertaing(although it re-uses footage from previous movies), more so in the tower fight's. It is a shame.that Bruce Lee never finished the GoD project as it had so much potential. The body/stunt double is super obvious, but overall it is a triumphant farewell to Mr. Lee.
