Superb
I watched this movie six months after the death of my mother. The poignant story of the elderly grandmother, so humble and selfless brought back so many memories of my own mother. IMpossible to not shed tears watching her simple bent over frame trudging slowly up the winding mountain paths carrying her little bags or pails while her heartless grandson skips along. I loved the slow pace of this film, the rural setting, the country people - and yes, the selfiish little modern grandson with whom I identified elements in myself. Each moment he has a glimpse of insight seems wonderful. I was rooting for him to change....... and felt myself slowing downs, softening as well right along with him. all because of the old grandmother whose inner beauty was so compelling. very powerful film.

Moving story, amazing natural grandma actor
No problem w/ the DVD. The story made me cry, and that's my criterion for a good movie. I showed it in class to my students, and they were highly invested in the characters. We all disliked the kid (and the mom, too), until he began to transform. The grandmother was captured amazingly, especially as a non-professional. Wept for her life and her giving nature, no matter what the boy did.

Good movie.
This is a great movie for people who love Korea. It is about an incredibly spoiled, cruel, and thoughtless child who is forced to live with his grandmother in her little hut in rural Korea while his mother finds a new job. He is absolutely awful to her at first, but gradually becomes a fairly decent human being after his exposure to the gentle. quiet grandmother. It brirngs back many wonderful memories of visiting towns in rural Korea when I was stationed there for 3 years ending in 1990. I love the Korean people. However, I couldn't make myself send it to my grandkids because I didn't want them to see what a brat he was at the beginning.

Only OK
Basically, I am a Korean drama addict. Have been for years. This movie had a lot of potential. The acting was good both by the grandma and the boy. The story line left a lot to be desired. The characters were not fully developed. I get the part about him having a change of heart as he lived with the grandma and saw all her sacrifices and heartfelt care she gave him. There really was no climax. That part could have been developed so much better. The actress who played the part was 77 at the time of the production. She recently passed at the age of 95.

Special Ed Teacher
We have a movie every Friday afternoon in my Special Day Class with our students with autism. Some of them are non-verbal, or have limited verbal behavior. Our theme this week was pop culture and entertainment, focusing on BTS, a K-pop boy band from Korea. I wanted to expose them to more of Korean culture. I had some doubts as to whether or not the students would engage in a movie with Korean dialogue but as the grandmother did not speak at all, and the boy did not speak all that much, it was easy to support the students in letting them know what was going on in the movie. most of them were engaged with the movie, as were the staff. Really moving story about family, and bridging gaps.

Testament to the power of patience and love
Absolutely the best film I've seen about the love of a grandparent. I have watched it many times and would have no problem watching it, again, which is more than I can say for several other movies I've enjoyed, too.I cry every time I watch this movie for the simple reason that patience and unadulterated love for a grandchild brings a spoiled child's self-realization of his love for his grandmother full circle. The grandmother, having not said a single word throughout the whole movie, accomplishes what more verbose and opinionated adults could have with this child, and others like him.I wanted to bring grandma home with me, hug the child as he leaves his now beloved grandma behind, and smack the kid's mother for such selfishness and negligence on her part.It is a movie I can watch repeatedly.

Fifth graders loved it.
You know when your students want to borrow your DVD to show their parents and other family members that you have a winner. I teach 5th graders and I chose to use my precious teaching time to show them this video as it met several of the reading, math, science, and social studies standards that I am required to teach. First, my students HAD to read as it is in a foreign language and the students had to read the subtitles, thus increasing their reading fluency and increasing their vocabulary. The movie is about a relationship between a young boy and his grandmother. Several of my students are being raised by their grandmothers and so we were able to have many discussions about the way the boy treated his grandmother and the way my students treated their grandmothers. I will be using this video at the beginning of this school year so I can refer back to it throughout the school year as it had a big impact on my students and I did not show it to them until April.

Inspiring, Touching and Faith-Renewing
Excellent movie for any parent, this true story about a family's journey to find their lost two-year old will break your heart and restore your faith in the mercy of God and the goodness of those who love him. Well-cast, well-executed, this movie is not only good entertainment but a little pearl of wisdom. This movie is wonderful because it IS a true story, rather than being a dramatization based on a true story. It was filmed in the home of the real family (who have cameos in the movie) and the dialogue and attitudes portrayed are true to the way the family described the day's events. A true, simple, but incredibly powerful story. The extras on the DVD are excellent, including discussions with the real family, who share their love for each other and God throughout the movie and the interviews. The director's commentary on the movie is very interesting from both a technical (acting/directing/movie-making) and plot point of view.Everyone should see this movie.
