Rulebook needs clarification
I've played several games from this publisher, and the rules are usually well thought out and clear. This game seems to be a little for thrown together there are outcomes that are not discussed in the rulebook and the PDF of the rulebook available from the publisher's website contradicts the rules in the printed copy.1) The book card allows you to look at another players hand and if you wish take a card. in the printed copy of the rules it says "at random," but online it omits the word random, This has a massive effect on gameplay. Other games I've played have separate rules for taking "random" cards from other players and looking at their hand. Also the fact that this rule is contradicted in two copies of the rulebook makes me think it wasn't fully thought out before the game was published.2) The candle essentially acts as a wild card allowing you to add a single candle to any attack. The toadstool is an unblockable attack, but requires you to take a card at random from the deck when used. If you pair a candle with a toadstool does that require you to take two cards as if you had played two toadstools? Sneaking another candle into another players pile without consequence overpowers the toadstool card. This situation is not addressed in the rules, and Indie Board & Cards is usually good about addressing scenarios that could be questioned.3) After dealing cards to the players the leftover cards are the starting discard pile, the rulebook never specifies to shuffle the discard, but there are times when you are supposed to draw a card "at random" from the discard. If you don't shuffle the discard you end up just drawing a card from the most recent attack. We decided during our game play that you should shuffle the discard pile whenever adding cards to it.I think this game has potential to be a lot of fun, but currently it seems like a beta game that isn't ready for widespread distribution. I recommend any one interested in this game wait until there's a second edition with more well thought out rules.
