Survival Mode...
Saw this trailer yrs ago, but NOW Netflix has it for free, yay! I knew just watchn the trailer that any time u have ppl in a harsh environment w/ pure isolation, ppl can behave like barbarians. They become the monsters. Love how this draws out the suspension, it plays on ur fears, the unknowns. You ask yourself- wat wud u do?

Gripping from start to finish.
This dramatization of Dan Simmon's novel is gripping, at times horrifying. And very well acted. I don't think anyone will get the full impact of the series if they've not read the book (all 800? pages). The book is an equally terrifying page turner, yet a terrific historical perspective of the obsession to find the north west passage, and an effective expose' on how the fortunes of these men turned on questionable decisions both in the preparation and in the journey itself. Fascinating part of exploration history!

Well adapted screenplay and well worth your while!
Some may consider this mini-series too slow in action or plot development. I say rubbish. Amazing to watch through a second time and notice the myriad of subtle nuances in foreground/background/peripheral imagery and action you missed the first time. This is a must watch at night with the lights off movie! The vastness of space and the isolation can be felt as if you were there. Well acted and character development was fabulous. The protagonist captain is superb. And the antagonist will make you wish you could reach through the screen and strangle him. Lol That is always a good sign of the tension that ensues. Enjoy!

Not to be missed--great television
I avoided this when it first came out because the NYTimes TV reviewer really trashed it. Plus, I'm not a fan of horror. Then finally, when I got bored enough with Amazon TV offerings I decided to try the first episode, and then I was hooked.I already knew the Franklin expedition story so that was not news. However, I loved the way the series brought even the minor characters to life. Every character was textured, and there was a sense that even if you saw a seaman appear only three times in the series, the show still kept showing interiority and conveyed the sense that if we got to know each man there would be an interesting story there. Harris, Menzies and Hines were all great--totally consistent throughout, with great nuances to each character---all their fallibilities totally believable.I also like the fact the the series provided a series of backstories to explain the end of each historical actor whose skeletons were found by later expeditions. So how did Armitage end up with Peglar's diary? The series posits that they were lovers and after Peglar died Armitage took the journal and willed himself to death, because once his lover died, there was no point continuing after that. Some people might not like tuunbaq, which was a tad cheesy, but I was find with that, because I was so taken by each character.I'm now watching the series again, and savoring the characterizations once more.I still think the actual historical actors were nuts--I mean in the end the whole Northwest Passage thing was about finding the quickest way to bring commodities to market.

Great show
Great show. DVD encoding was blocky on some of the many dark scenes (on my TV at least), so I'd spend a little more and get the Blu-ray if I had to do it over again.

Even more violent than I thought it would be
I thought this show would be a supernatural historical show, and it is…but it’s also a very violent horror show. The most violent part was not the supernatural horror, but the ordinary violence of men towards each other after they end up in extreme circumstances. The history was very interesting, though. I had read a bit about these ships and the whole story. Also Jared Harris is really one of the greatest actors of our time. I really enjoyed his performance in this.

A melhor série de ficção histórica
Blu-ray maravilhoso de The Terror!

A good hypothesis with a fiction twist.
I had seen some news about the findings of the two long lost time vessels in National Geographic. Later, I read the novel by Dan Simmos, which turned out to ber quite interesting and after that, I found out that there was a TV series based on the book. I started to see the promotional videos in the net and got very interested. I saw each chapter with my family and they were really intrigued about how the story was unfolding, so in order not to spoil it, I kept the climax information for myself and let them enjoy it. Of course, there are differences with the book, but that happens when there is and adaptation, doesn't it?
