The Lord of the Rings Audio CD – CD, 17 Aug. 1999

I am thrilled with this set of CDs! I have a copy of this original Radio 4 production on a set of casettes but obviously it isn't easy to find a casette player any more. This new set of CDs has the same cast and is from the same radio broadcast. The sound is better than the CDs and it is wonderful to be able to listen to such quality of acting. Sadly many of the cast have died but the richness of their voices and theirtalent lives on in these recordings.

I first heard this in 1981 and sat riveted throughout 10 weeks of radio. The celebrities were well cast and I am really enjoying it once again but it is very `British' with cut glass pronunciation. Everyone has their own ideas of the characters in their minds and mine have been there for years so I am delighted that I can still enjoy this production (BBC of course!) while thoroughly enjoying the Peter Jackson films. All in all - great!

Excellent quality recording. Packaged in a a strong CD sized illustrated card-board box containing 10 discs, each in their own plastic sleeve, and a well printed glossy booklet with credits, cast listing, an introduction by Brian Sibley, and track listings. The full drama runs across the 10 CDs. The original broadcast had an epilogue and cast listing at the end of each of 26 half-hour episodes; these, obviously have been dropped.

Very basic the CDs are just in plastic wallets its German in origin but it is the BBC version ..Not a complaint just an observation

I thoroughly enjoyed this dramatization. Read it in middle of nights as I have tricky sleep pattern! Hope it would be a narration, but perhaps one of those will be produced at some point. Excellent introduction to Tolkien!
