In the magical Greek island of Patmos the inhabitants have lived, danced, and laughed for thousands of years. But, with the arrival of a straight-laced, high-tech archaeologist, Eric (Matthew Modine) everything could forever change. Eric soon finds himself swept into a world of picture-postcard scenery and romance. That is, until his satellite-guided equipment reveals that his most important find may be buried under the tavern owned by his love interest – the beautiful and uncompromising Katerina (Agni Scott). Will Eric toss away a lifetime of work – and the hope of fulfilling his father’s deepest wish – for the love of a vivacious and independent woman? It will take all her passion and all his courage to find out where the real treasure is buried.

Review without Spoilers - Pros & Cons
Opa! is a 2005 film directed by Udayan Prasad, & starring Matthew Modine. Agni Scott, & Richard Griffiths. Opa! is a romantic drama set and filmed in Greece. Here are the pros & cons of this film as I see it, I hope this helps you.Pros:1. The cinematography of Greece is very nice2. The acting by Agni Scott & Richard Griffiths is very good.3. A cute & overall enjoyable story4. Most of the supporting cast is very goodCons:1. Overall the story is very predictable2. The story is lacking body and is drawn out a bit3. Matthew Modine acting adds nothing positive to the film, his performance of the character is poor & makes his character boring & pretty unlikeable, so why would Agni Scott's character be drawn to him & why would I care what happened to him, his part could have been much better casted4. The music is too loud in parts and drowns out the voices in parts, I should not have to sit with the remote to regularly turn the volume up and down

OPA! tells the joy of this movie
I came across this movie kind of by accident, and really enjoyed it. Since I am of Greek descent, I was attracted by the title, which for a Greek is like yelling , "Yippee!" The actors were great, particularly the 3 women dressed entirely in black,( which signifies they were all widows, as women customarily wear black for the rest of their lives at least more traditionally minded women do) who show up throughout the movie, as a humorous Greek chorus. The location shots are gorgeous, the food and restaurant traditional. Made me want to run away to Patmos.

Loved, loved
Loved, loved, loved this movie! It possibly helped being in Patmos where it was filmed whilst watching it at the time and visiting all the places, including the restaurant. A standard love story, but the visual was stunning.
