Dreadful Toxins but Smooth Legs
I first learn of Nair Hair Remover Lotion while visiting my little sister; she is fifteen years of age and boy, growing up so fast. I will admit I was a bit resistant as I've never seen nor heard any of my girlfriends using this product, or any depilatories for that matter. Although I am quite familiar with the brand; as I've seen it in the stores for years, it never dawned on me to actually, "give it a try." I guess it's like wondering why people of color would buy tanning products? The PastI wanted to wait until I had a lot of new ingrown hair before truly giving this a try; that I almost forgot I had the darn thing. What I thought would take days, turned more into weeks. I am an adult woman who have been shaving since Junior High School; and as an middle-aged adult, it's been the same mundane (twice a week) routine for as far back as I can recall. It is true what they say, that if you constantly shave; after a period of time your hair start to thin out. I honestly never knew just how thick my hair grows because I shaved so frequently. It become such a routine just like plucking or tweezing; you loose sight after the years. My mother use to fuss about shaving at such a early age, but it was something about having hair on my body that I thought was revolting; just the site of body hair, and I had that ‘itch’ to remove it. Although, I am a bit wiser now; my days of excessive shaving: arms, stomach, upper lip, side burns, and knees are long gone; there’s just somethings that’s a natural balance in life. It's not that I looked ape-like, but to a young child, and being in front of the camera for ones budding modeling career; it seemed like the end of the world for sure. The PresentThe present, and my hair doesn't grow as thick as it use too. Day, after day, I checked my legs; and day, after day, there still wasn't enough hair to put Nair to the test. Days turned into weeks; finally, although still not a full leg's worth, but enough hair growth to get the job done, and my A.D.D. temperaments of the past for not shaving was kicking in; my brain couldn't withstand another day. It had to be done, NOW.First usageFor two nights straight I kept forgetting your instructed to let the product sit for (3 minutes) and jumped right in the shower, but luckily by the third night my brain finally kicked in, and I was now ready to give it a try. That, and I left the product sitting out on top of my bathroom sink; it was certain, "I would not forget."I applied a fairly descent amount in the palm of my hands and applied all over (front and back) of legs. I waited (3 minutes) just as it stated and then showered. The stinch was so bad I couldn't wait to remove it. I took my hand towel and scrubbed well; I haven't used a bath towel in years; my preference is to use loofah sponges, but the 'Nair lotion' was slimy, it seemed as though it would never wipe off.WarningThe Nair Hair Remover Lotion can be quite slippery, I almost feel in the shower. Not sure I would recommend for anyone senior citizen age to use this while showering. Although the thought of grandmothers still showering at her age; not sure if that's even probable. So, please be cautious while showering and using this product. It also leaves a strong residue in the bathtub which takes much scrubbing to remove; what a pain in the butt that is.To my disappointment, Nair Hair Remover Lotion did not work. At first I felt like kicking myself for trying this product; my thought process, "this is NOT for people of color" was working over time. I knew I had to write a review on this; and for every women of color who always wondered. Therefore, I thought I had to give this product at least one more try.Night #2I re-read the instructions one more go-round and it does suggest, “if it doesn't work at your first attempt, to re-apply.” With that being said I applied just as I did the previous night before, and waited, but this time I sat on the side of the bath and ran my legs under the facet. Nope, it didn't work, another failed attempt.I was agitated as I desperately wanted it to work. I held the bottle in my hands, canvassing with my eyes every detailed word (front-to-back) when suddenly, I noticed it said, "Do Not Rub In." "Hmmmmm, I thought to myself, maybe this meant something?" Upon my next attempt, I did exactly as instructed, but this time I used a pretty descent-adequate amount of the Nair making certain not to rub it in, and to my surprise, it worked; success at last! All my hair (what little I had) was successfully gone. You can't help but to have silky-smooth legs with this product due to what it takes just to remove ones hair. It is impossible in my opinion, not to have soft skin. I’m not sure I would agree it is due to the Aloe and Lanolin as I am a person who make a lot of my own beauty products; Nair Hair Remover Lotion in my opinion seem to be infused with a combination of good and just mad science affects of sorts.I highly recommend to wash ones hand well, and do not touch your face afterwards. There is serious chemicals in this product to make it work efficiently; this is nothing to play around when it comes to ones health and eyes. I'm not sure if this has always been the case with these type of products. Hey, I'm just an Island woman who's experimenting for the first time, so what do I know? Use your own judgement but please, use good judgment when using this product. For anyone who uses any type of chemical-relaxer treatment then honestly, you will know what this product smells and feels like. It's very thick, but soft to the touch. Everything about it just wasn't enjoyable to me, because I kept fearing it was going to burn or wondering if I was going to have a reaction from it. Maybe, I'm just being paranoid, because this is new to me. For anyone who have followed my reviews you should know by now I am not one for heavy dyes, and perfumes, and I honestly live by nature’s mantra "all natural."SmellI am going to be totally frank here. If you close your eyes you honestly cannot tell the difference between this product and your typical hair relaxer/perm. They couldn't have lied more with their advertisement, "new look and fresh scent;" “what fresh scent?” Did I buy the wrong bottle? I would like to know what testers did they pay? Who told them this product has this “nice, pleasant aroma?” Ladies, take my word, do not expect for this to smell like anything resemblance of aloe vera; it is deception at best. Not only is it dreadful on ones nose pallet, but its awfully strong too. I would highly recommend that you close your eyes before smelling this product; so not to irritate ones eyes; its honestly, that overpowering. I questioned if I should apply it without the use of wearing latex gloves; just as it is recommended with using profession chemical dyes and relaxers. The Nair Hair Remover Lotion smelled like something one would expect to smell while having their hair done at a professional hair salon. This let me know there is much harmful chemicals in this product. No wonder they suggest washing ones hand afterwards. This Review has been brought to you by 'Awakened1'.** See all my reviews:http://www.amazon.com/gp/cdp/member-reviews/A34AZ5B6CCBLPN/ref=cm_cr_pr_auth_rev?ie=UTF8&sort_by=MostRecentReview
