Toe box too wide. Hard deck provides little cushioning. Laces impossible to adjust.
I like the way the outer heel extends up the center back, to prevent heel becoming detached.I don't like the fact that the laces are all but unadjustable, and there is very little finger room to grasp them and pull to tighten.Tightening the laces isn't easy, & loosening them is equally difficult. The struggle to move a lace 1/2" along actually hurts my fingertips. As such, taking these shoes off and on is inconvenient. It's much more difficult than it should be. The laces must be tightened and loosened one hole at a time, and this is impossible to do towards the toe.The stiff shoe body should provide excellent support, and would, except that tightening laces is such a difficult and time consuming problem, that I tend to leave them as they are, which allows my foot to slide further into that "roomy" toe box and creates a 2-finger gap at the heel. Even going down hill shouldn't allow this shift.FIT IS NOT LIKE MY REGULAR SIZE!At home, I spend most of my time barefoot or in my stocking feet. Over a lifetime, my toes have fanned out and I hate the feeling of pinched or confined toes I get from many shoe styles I have tried. , including my last pair of Merrill hiking shoes. This excessive room at the toe of the Moab 2 is a surprising feature, one I wish I had investigated further before I ordered these. I read "roomy toe box" & thought "that's me!"Over all, my feet are a medium width, though I have sometimes purchased a wide if the toe box of a shoe I like seems confining. After my experience with Merrel hiking shoes in a size 10 1/2, I expected a much better fit in these size 11, as well as more support and comfort built into these shoes. The lack of padding on the deck of the shoe is reallydisappointing. The purchase of an insert should provide more foot comfort, better arch support, and minimize back and forth movement in the shoe, which these shoes lack right out of the box.The last pair of Merrells I purchased were a size 10 1/2. They were too tight in the toe and a bit too short, giving me blisters on the tips of my toes just walking around the house. I expected these size 11 to be a good fit. They aren't.To tighten up the fit, I purchased "Performance insoles" rated to add maximum cushioning and medium arch support. I placed them under the rigid plastic Merrell removable insoles. Although the ( Sof Sole Insoles Women's AIRR Orthotic Support Full-Length Gel Shoe Inserts) provide additional arch support and some cushioning, I only see gel in the heel, and my heel still still isn't secure, in the shoe, though it is not 2 fingers forward anymore. It still moves up and down in the shoe, and with the added insoles there is less ankle support as the additional arch is raising the foot. . I do hope that the shoes tighten up around the foot once they're broken in. The added insoles are easy to remove. The vibram outer soles seem like they will be very good for the terrain I visit, and may be the best feature of this shoe.Lastly, the color doesn't really look like it does in the listing photo. The leather is much lighter, sort of an antique white suede. Not the grreyish color of aluminum I expected. The accent color is green, not blue as it appears in the listing. That doesn't concern me at all, but I thought it worth mentioning. These are really well made, and could be outstanding shoes on someone's feet, but unfortunately, not on mine. If I hadn't been wearing them around the house to break them in, I'd send them back. Out of the box, they fit like my Mom's size 12 W she bought when her feet were swollen. And my normal shoe size is 11. These Moab2 are at least 1/2 size larger than that, and IMO, they are more like a 12.

Amazing Fit and Function
I rarely submit reviews, but I have to say that I am beyond impressed by these hiking shoes. I bought these right before my trip to the redwoods, I had no time to break them in, & I was a bit nervous I might have blisters or sore feet. But being the nature loving gal that I am, I decided to go on a 13 MILE hike in my new shoes. My feet never got tired or sore, their wasn’t one blister or any rubbing. I have bought many hiking shoes throughout my life, and these are truly the best. They have amazing grip and are very comfortable. They are true to size; I wear a size 7 in most shoes and that is what I purchased with these.

Exactly as expected
I have worn Merrill Moab Vent shoes for years and this latest pair is just as good as the first pair I ever bought. I have an enlarged big toe joint and Merrill is one of the few shoes that provides a high enough toe box to avoid pressure/pain on my big toe joint. In addition, they fit well overall and are very sturdy/durable hiking shoes. They have taken me to the bottom of the Grand Canyon, the top of Katahdin and through many national and state park trails. I highly recommend these shoes.

Comfortable and sturdy
At first I thought these shoes were small for the size , however after adjuster shoestring tightness from toe to heel the shoes fit very well. They allowed me to feel the various uneven terrain yet my feet were protected. Climbing the slippery red rocks in Sedona AZ was a breeze with these shoes. They gripped well and allowed me to climb and keep up with my college kids. After miles of hiking, my feet were comfortable with no blisters. These shoes are the best hiking shoes I have owned. Well worth the purchase.

Very comfortable
The shoes seemed very stiff when I first put them on but they are the most comfortable hiking shoes I have ever worn. Wore them for everyday wear for about a week then took a five hour hike over hills and rocks. Great traction and great support for my feet. Would definitely buy again.

Comfortable right out of the box!
Purchased these to replace a similar pair. Nice color. They are bulkier and seem heavy but are very comfortable. I wore them on a week trip of hiking and had no problems the entire time. Not a pair to put in the suitcase as they would take up a lot of room especially when you are packing light. Had to wear them on the way to and from.

Great hiking shoes
I found these shoes by accident. I needed a 5 wide which is hard to find. Thankfully Merrell makes my size. I just got back from hiking many miles in Utah. The women’s Moab 2 shoes were perfect. Fit well. Dried quickly. I saw so many other hikers in Merrells! I will definitely purchase again when these wear out.

Not pretty, and not the most comfortable, but they are wide and have good traction.
Finding women's wide-width hiking shoes is a major challenge. I walk in steep terrain with lots of tripping hazards and loose rocks, so well-fitting shoes with a stable, sturdy sole are essential. The Merrell Moab is one of the widest, and it has a good, grippy sole. However, while it offers more toe room than almost any other other brand—including Keen, these days—this isn't the most comfortable shoe (although the Moab vent is more comfortable than the water resistant version). The laces are difficult to adjust and the footbed is hard. Swapping out the insoles helps, replacing the laces helps, too. If you have Hobbit feet and you need hiking shoes, this could be a good choice. It's not perfect, but it's better than most shoes out there, including some that cost a lot more.

Good for hiking
My daughter feels comfortable when hiking with it. No longer wear the last one I bought for her from mountain gears.

High toe box means my hammer toe doesn’t rub.
Wish I had found this product years ago!Well made, not heavy.

Awful fit
So common with Merrell now is the poor fit on up and down sizes. This would be a great shoe except the length from ankle to toe is ridiculous as size goes up. Toes rubbed so kept trying a half size larger. Merrell just makes the shoe bigger but same proportion so it never addressed the need for more length to toe. The larger size just makes it so loose and huge around ankle. Absolutely ridiculous
