Follow the directions for best outcome! Amazon shipping could be improved on this!!
I purchased all three steps products to refinish the deck on the house we just purchased. It is 30' x 30', so I ordered 5 gallons of the stain. The cleaner and the brightener worked great, plenty of both left over for the future. The stain ended up just barely enough to cover, mainly because about 1/3 of the deck is protected from the weather by an overhanging roofline and required much less stain to cover. Some of the most worn sections really soaked up the stain/waterproofer, so depending on your situation you will need to adjust how much stain to order. It says 100 to 150 square feet per gallon for two coats. If your deck has a lot of wear, calculate about 75 square feet per gallon. It also says the finish is flat, but I found that it has some sheen to it, especially over the less weathered sections. Application is easiest when you follow the directions by doing the second coat within about 15 minutes of application of the first coat. It covers more easily and dries better. Used dark walnut color due the deck being previously stained and the darker color made the whole deck more uniform in color while leaving the woodgrain to show through the stain. Don't know how this will stand up to northern Alabama weather, but I am happy with it so far. The only downside was the Amazon shipping. It shipped via USPS, and I was notified by the post office that they could not deliver as the packaging was damaged and there was a lot of leakage, making a mess of their truck and building. Reorder was easy through Amazon, although I had to speak with a person as the online return/reorder page directed me to return the original order. Since it was damaged and leaking, I asked how I was expected to ship it back. The Amazon customer service guy over-rode those directions and made sure I didn't have to ship the damaged stuff back. When I got the new order, I understood how it could have been damaged and leaking. The box that the 2.5 gallon jug came in from the manufacturer was well labeled and had arrows directing to keep the box vertical. But when the two jugs came in Amazon packaging, they didn't bother to pack them upright and had no notice on the outside of the box that it was to be shipped vertically and also no notice that it was liquid. Plus, the box that the two jugs of stain came in was larger than the two boxes and no packing was included to keep it from sliding around which also contributed to the original order being damaged. Since I eventually got everything I ordered undamaged, I didn't take any stars off my review.

Good product!
This is a great product. A great color. I just put up a privacy fence which was pressure treated, but needed stained and sealed for the upcoming winter. This looks good, but I ran out. Two gallons cover five eight feet length fence panels and I have nine panels, so I obviously need more. It is runny and I advise wearing a mask while applying because it can be irratating to the lungs. Other than that, people kept walking by and giving me a thumbs up.

Easy to use
I used this to refurbish a 30 year old deck. I started with a good scrubbing with oxyclean. Then belt sander 80 grit. I painted it on with a 4 inch brush taped to a pole. Since two coats are recommended within 20 minutes I applied it to the first three planks and then a second coat to the first and a first coat to the fourth and so forth. It covered far more area than I expected. It soaked in, definitely a stain, not a paint. The color held up over the winter. Otherwise, too soon to comment on durability. My wife is not pleased with the color as it has a distinct orange cast.

Clean your brushes well, or hairs will stick together.
Two years ago I painted my steps with a waterbased, outdoor paint and it peeled, held moisture under and was a wasted investment of money and time. My neighbors painted their steps with a stain/sealer even though they did not remove ALL of the paint on their steps. They still look fine enough. We live in an HOA that did not tell us NOT to paint but to use stain/sealer. . . whatever . . . I had to put a tarp over my steps to let them dry as there were rain clouds in the sky. (It did not rain and the steps dried). Label says they will dry within two hours at 65 degrees F, with humidity over 50... Temp was 59 degrees. . . I gave it a few days and the steps dried. I did not wash the brush well, only rinsing it. Now it has hardened streaks of stain/sealer in it that will not rub or peel out. However, when I bather the sealer on my fingertips washed away easily. I purchased WALNUT color. Pretty.

Looks great and easy to apply to fence.
I love the color of stain as it looks natural and very polished. Blends so well with nature.

Very nice stain!
This was very easy to use. I actually did it whole deck with a paint brush. The color is rich and dark, but not so dark that you can't see the grain of the wood. We are very pleased with it and will be purchasing more to stain our privacy fence.

Great stain for old, weathered decks.
I had a 31 year old deck that was weathered, stained and deteriorating. When COVID hit I decided to see what I could do to recondition it. I spent a lot of time pulling up deck boards and sanding them, but the top side was pretty bad. Instead I pulled up all the boards and reversed them, using the underside on top.I power washed, sanded and fixed the rotted places with wood filler. Finally I applied two coats of #1Deck stain and the results were great. The deck looked almost new. The stain went on easily with a 10-inch brush attached to a broom handle. The coat was even with no overlapping streaks. I'm really impressed with how well this stain was able to revitalize my very old deck.It is now 2 years later and the deck still looks great, though I think I'll be cleaning it in the fall and apply at least one more coat of stain. I highly recommend #1Deck stain and will be ordering more.
