PelikanTransparent Watercolor Paint Set, 12 Colors (721886), Multi,Black,Blue,Green

My daughter used this for her art class. Lasted long.

Fun, design and good quality I bought this set despite my skepticism; in effect, being an art student I usually buy watercolors brands which pigment reputation is not to be made anymore, but this time I had a budget restriction and a few weeks later, even if I bought tubes in the meanwhile, I do not regret my purchase. Red plastic extremities transform themselves into water jars, then you can easily open the box and you realize you have a big plastic palette to prepare your mix (in this case it is just like having a palette with a lid, great!!!) and a "two levels" basic set of hues with primary, complementary or contrasting colors. However, do not look for sap green or Payne's grey for instance...In general, I think the pigment concentration is great even if it is not the same as higher budget watercolor brands of course but it is also far away from being only additives, binders and fillers. The result is actually nice and "fresh". This set is easy to work with, even if it is easier to work with tubes than paintings "pots" or "tumblers" especially if you want to mix them on your palette. However, it is a great quality/price German product for whoever wants to paint, beginners, children or if one wants to make a few studies before painting THE masterpiece!Last but not least, it is amazingly affordable and much better than children watercolors in terms of pigment concentration and consequently the result is nicer so if you have children, just share great moments painting all together having a lot of fun knowing that your wonderful memories will not only be stuck in your mind but will also hang on your walls!

I own this paint and the opaque version as well. Both of them have amazing color and paint very well. I'm not a professional water colorist, but I do water color paint quite a bit and I've used paint sets that I don't like nearly as much. I'm not a fan of liquid water color paints, so this is the best brand I've found for dry water color paints so far, that's why I have both versions. The only reason I'm giving this product a 4 out of 5, is because I think the case for the paint is much to big , a design flaw. I just think it could be a bit smaller, it's even bigger than the 24 color opaque version they sell, and that one is already pretty large. Something strange is that the colors sections are even smaller than their opaque version, yet the set is way bigger.... but if I were basing this review off the paint alone, I'd give it a 5. The colors are bright, true to the photo. They paint very well and smooth. I start a water color class this summer and the teacher even recommended this set, along with some others, but since I was already familiar with this brand, I went for this one. not to paint in the field for sure......

I would have given these watercolors 5 stars because the watercolors are very pigmented, but this is the most cumbersome set ever. It is not meant to be used for plein air or urban sketching the trays fall out easily as well as the mixing tray. The other issue I have is that being made in Germany is fine, and they even put 5 languages on each color. But, they didn't write the color on the pan, and put the English (international language) underneath the pan with other foreign languages on the outside where they are visible. The pans are difficult to pop out, but if flipped upside down end up all over the place. I really like the water reservoirs. I'm not so fond of the mixing area because of the convex bowls for mixing. It would have been nicer to have a flat surface with walls like most watercolor palettes. But on another positive note, if you're mixing a single color up then it can be done right in the gray area below and above each color. Beautiful transparent colors with very rich pigment, but I feel the design of the palette was poor.

Really nice colors and fun to play with. Layering and glazing is easy.

Excellent watercolor paints and on par with Winsor and Newton Cotman Pans, (I own both brands and plenty of them). This set contains an insanely good transparent flesh hue/color! This Flesh hue is one of the best, if not the best. I only wish you could buy the Pelikan Pans individually.The set comes with a small tube of Chinese White (so technically 25 colors or 24 + 1 tone, if you prefer), a mixing tray and both ends serve as water containers. A beginners manual in English, with all the colors contained in the set also comes with this set.Great value, true beginners and student watercolor paints (so good, I often use them with artist grade water color paints as I do with the Cotman Pans & tubes) and the only downside is waiting for individual pans or tube paints from Pelikan to be sold.

I bought this set specifically for variety of transparent colors to paint illustrations for a children's book. The pigments were easy to dilute and blend. I liked the tray which worked out well on my small desk area. Would have liked white to be included in the set for its opaque value, but this option was not available.

Item did not come as ordered. I was sent a 12 color gouache set rather than a 24 color watercolor set. I filed a claim with Amazon and received an email from TCP Global soon after stating that I could keep the item sent to me at no cost and they would send the item I ordered as well. I did not receive this item until after Christmas (it was a Christmas present), but it was rushed shipping. I was happy with the overall experience even with the mistake, but it was a bit of a bummer not to get the item I ordered in time for Christmas.

I bought these for my Dad for Christmas. He had looked everywhere for them and hadn't been able to find them anywhere! He only told me he wanted them on 18/12/13 evening and so there was no guarantee he would get them for Christmas, but they turned up on 24/12 and I was so happy! He is really pleased with them and says the colours are brilliant. He only has to touch them with his brush and the colours become vibrant immediately - he loves them. Considering the paints had to travel from Germany they reachedus in record time and the postage and packing costs were not excessive for that.

Lovely transparent paints. Good value and strong pigment. Very pleased.

I have been using these for years and really love them. I just wish that it was easy to get the replacement pans as the olive green always gets finished long before the other colours.

Excellent paints - pigment rich & nice & creamy ... The two ends clip together to form a duo of stable water carriers & the loose palette is very useful too ...

Excellent service and really pleased with the redesigned product. The price was much lower than when previously purchased many years ago.
