The gauges are not accurate. After checking valve clearances on my motorcycle, I was surprised that they were ALL smaller than they should have been. (Gaps increase with wear, they don’t get smaller) I was on the verge of dismantling the top end of my engine to change the shims, when I decided to check the thickness of the gauges first. They were all approximately 0.02mm larger than stated, which means that labour intensive and costly job had been avoided as all 16 valves are actually within their tolerances when this discrepancy is accounted for. Be aware of this before you buy, which I would avoid doing, obviously. I checked them with two separate micrometers, one digital, one not, which showed the same results. Not good enough for what I’d supposed to be an accurate tool.
