Original Montgomery Womens Wooden Toggles Duffle Coat

I saw the Paddington movie and was instantly smitten, which launched me on the search for a blue duffel coat like the one Paddington wears in the movie. I found the perfect coat right here on Amazon. And even better, it is the genuine article made in England. The quality of this coat is unmatchable. Every seam is bound and beautifully stitched. It is as attractive on the inside as the out. The wool is soft and not a bit scratchy. I usually cannot have wool touch my skin, because it is irritating, but not this wool! I typically wear a size 20 in jackets and like a somewhat loose fit. I originally ordered the size 22 based on other reviews. The 22 was too large and I returned it for the size 20, which is perfect. Although these are English sizes and a 20 is supposedly equivalent to an American size 18, I can attest that the size 20 feels like an American size 20 in this coat. The shoulders are fitted, but allow plenty of room for movement, even with a heavy sweater. The coat feels substantial, even heavy when you take it out of the bag, but is extremely comfortable and maneuverable when you put it on. The sleeves are a bit long, but not overly so. The hood is oversized, but there is a neck tab to hold it in place, and button adjustments to tighten it up. There is a zipper, which extends to just below the waist, which makes it very easy to sit down in this coat, especially behind the wheel of a car. I ordered it late in the season and have worn it only once in a Spring snowstorm. It was warm and snugly in the cold. I can't wait for the return of winter, so that I can wear it all the time!

I've been looking for an authentic British wool toggle coat. This one was the most reasonably priced, and I got an even better price by going through Amazon. Based on the advice on the website, I ordered a size 10, since I usually wear an 8. The size 10 was much too big. In all fairness, I like my clothing loose, so I may actually be more of a size 6 than an 8 in US sizes, but in any case, I had to return the coat and exchanged it for a size 8. The exchange went very smoothly and quickly, although I did have to pay for postage. The size 8 coat is quite roomy and I will definitely be able to wear a heavy sweater underneath it if I want to. The fabric and the lining are beautiful and smooth. I love the hood--it stays up without needing to be fastened and lies flat at the back when not in use. The length is perfect. The only thing I don't like is the cuffs. They don't button or fasten in any way, and there is no inner cuff, so a lot of cold air can get in through the bottom of the sleeves. Still, overall, I love it and think it is an excellent-quality coat for the price.

I'm very happy with this coat. I call it my Paddington coat because I picked blue for Paddington Bear. It is pretty much exactly as expected. Very well made, nice quality wool, comfortable, warm. It is slightly bigger than I thought it would be, but not so big that I wanted a size down. It's roomy enough to wear a sweater under without feeling too huge without.

The coat was great. An unusual blue and a nice heavy wool. But I think because of that it was a bit tight in the shoulders. So I'm doing a size up.

This is a lovely coat, well-made and an authentic Montgomery. BUT beware that it is not as long as the current photographs show. When the coat arrived my wife expected it to be knee-length, a reasonable expectation for a "long" coat and certainly it seems knee-length in the photos. It isn't. We rang Montgomery to be told that they decided, this summer, to shorten the coat. It used to be 39 inches long and now its 34 inches! So they have shaved quite a lot of material off. No doubt helps the profits. Disappointing - but its a lovely coat and she'll be keeping it; though with colder legs. Thought we'd bring this to your attention so you can make an informed choice.

My wife is absolutely delighted with this duffle coat - she had been looking for one for a while.She wanted to be able to wear a sweatshirt underneath and simply got her usual size - perfect

I have three of these coats now. This one is for shopping on very cold days. I have a smaller one in blue for days when a jumper underneath is not needed, and a yellow one which I use for dog walking.Mud falls off the coat overnight (if a dog jumps up), and the coat is practical in the rain.

for years I have always wanted a traditional duffle coat and this one is perfect, though the options of many different colours were available to me, I choose the beige colour, the firm were very helpfully in making sure that I ordered the correct size, which was a worry to me when ordering clothes for the first time. many thanks I am sure that I will get many years of wear from this lovely warm coat.

Absolutely beautiful coat, real quality coat. Ordered size lower as advised and still plenty of room for thick jumper. Love wearing it already
