High quality, good customer service
I bought this for use with my Nikon D750, with which it seems to work quite well. It locks on to the GPS satellites quite quickly, typically in well under one minute, especially with a clear view of the sky. It also locks on quickly indoors in my family room which has only its roof between the device and the sky. Other places in the house which have more structure in the way might or might not allow the device to obtain a lock. Overall, this is quite good performance. The on-device display is clear and easy to understand, and offers many options for display. The settings screens allow for a high degree of customization and configuration, and are easy to navigate. There is only one problem I have experienced. Intermittently, GPS information is not logged to the images. I strongly suspect this is because the camera connection point where the device cable is inserted is directly adjacent to the carrying strap lug. I use the carrying strap whenever I use the camera, so I think that from time to time the strap presses against the cable connector and causes it to become unseated. Pushing on the connector to reseat it fixes the problem. The cable is well constructed, and appears quite sturdy, so there is no problem there. It has a right angle connector where it connects to the camera, and that is good for this type of use.Battery life is good, but not quite as good as claimed. To be fair, I used the heck out of it for several days and only recharged it once.Customer Service is quite responsive. I had some general questions about this device and the Canon model, and they responded by email the following day.I am pleased with the quality and performance of this device. My only regret is that I didn’t buy it earlier.

Exceeded my expectations
I wanted a hot shoe GPS, on my Canon 70D, that would insert the coordinates of my photos into the metadata. With such data, I would be able to plot the photos in the Map module in Lightroom. Initially, I was attracted to the GMAX Receiver because of the price, back panel display, and advertised features. My expectations were exceeded! The receiver records coordinates, heading, local time, and many more data points. The back panel display allows you to use it as a tracking device. In addition, the receiver records your position to an internal log every 10 secs and will do so for almost 170 days. I have been able to, with some additional work, map and record my treks on Google Earth.I do have to admit I had some issues with the length of the shipping time, almost 13 days. However, my concerns were alleviated after working with the supplier. Order this well in advance of any upcoming trek.At a later date, I will try to post some results from one of my hikes. One final note: Do check with your camera manufacturer that the firmware version is up to date and recognizes GPS data. You may even be able to control some of the GPS functions through the Menu on your camera software.

Check for compatibility before you buy
I bought this device to geotag photos with more data than the Canon Camera Connect App will supply (this device will log compass and tilt position). It says it will work with Canon EOS-M cameras, however it does not work with either my EOS-M3 or EOS-M6mkII. It seems like it occasionally logs camera flash triggers but not consistently. I am able to use a command line utility called EXIFTOOL that can add some geotag information back into the pictures after the fact, but it isn't the simplest thing in the world to use (tip: Sync your camera's time to the GMAX-EOS then take a picture of the GMAX-EOS display to calculate the offset). As it is a very expensive add-on to my photo kit I would have liked it to do better than just pairing with the free Canon app. Attempted to return and the seller never contacted me to follow up, so I guess I'm stuck with it now. Maybe someday I'll buy a body that will communicate with this unit and I'll get some use out of it.

This is a great item how ever service is terible.
Works great in the flash hot shoe. Comes with a cable to allow attachment to allow connection with camera so you can use a mounted flash. My cable was broken and I tried to order a new one from the manufacturer who is in china. I went on line to do this could not find the cable for my camera, still to this day can't find it. Did find one that looked like it would fit and ordered it. Took months to arrive and did not fit. Cost was over 50 dollars for a small cable. Tried to find a way to return it could not. Very little info on web site. Result if using it does not allow camera flash to open or allow you to mount flash on camera.

Very satisfied purchase, I love the GPS!
I am very satisfied. Very fast signal detection, very precise location measurement. I have used the GMAX-EOS almost 10 days and it works perfect with my EOS 80D. It works very quickly, much more than my previous GP-E2. More features, but less costly than the Canon GP-E2. My location with this GPS compared with coordinates from google maps was very close. The GMAX has a larger battery capacity and the battery is rechargeable. I can use it as a stand alone GPS. I like the bigger and brighter screen which is very easy to read. The compass appears to be very accurate, which makes it possible to triangulate my position relative to what I am photographing. The GPS has a built-in altimeter barometer, I will be testing this more for my coming trip.....

It works and it's accurate
I use this to geotag photos with my camera. Comparing to other GPS readouts it's very accurate. It's a tad on the pricey side, but it fulfills my needs. Thankfully it comes with a special cable so it can be used with the camera's popup flash.
