I love this shredder/grader! However this model's material continuously tarnishes after every wash even with drying. I followed the care-for instructions and still have the issue. It seems like the base components are made of aluminum or have a never ending powder coating on them. I even tried to remove via the dishwasher only made it worse.

I was a little disappointed. My other cutter was heavy stainless steel. This was much lighter and difficult for the cones to attach. My other was probably 35 years old. This one just seems to be a poorer quality.

I’m a consumer, not a commercial restaurant. We shred our own cheese to save money. Most of the shredders for home use are wimpy and break easily. I know this product was made for commercial kitchen and wanted it for its durability. It’s very durable, however, when it arrived it had a black coating. I hand washed it MANY times, but the coating kept coming off onto the shredded cheese. I contacted the manufacturer about the problem and they were going to send me a new unit…..until they realized I was an individual and not a commercial restaurant owner. Then all communication ceases. So my knock is on the company’s customer support, not the product. After a month of cleaning I’ve removed all the coating to my wife’s satisfaction.

I use this primarily to shred mozzarella cheese, and it works great! The suction is very good on a tile surface. While it is easy to assemble, use, dismantle and clean, it also doesn't always hold the cutting implements firmly enough in place. Mid-use reattachment is sometimes required.

I have a cutter similar to this one that I got for free with the purchase of Kitchen Craft cookware set. I've had it forever and love it. My son recently mentioned that he liked my cutter better than the hand held grater that he has. So I searched the internet to find one like mine for him. It came quickly. However, although it looks identical to mine - mine is heavier, shinier, and the suction cup is stronger... AND there's something wrong with the metal (or coating) it smears off onto the food even after cleaning it in the dishwasher- just touching it transfers dark gray material to your fingers. I wouldn't recommend this one, but if you can find the one from Kitchen Craft it would be well worth it.

I bought this because my salad shooter motor bit the dust and this reminded me of a shredder my mom had when I was a kid (in the 1960's, but hers was old even then). Well made and extremely durable. It does a beautiful job cutting carrots, radishes, cucumbers; cabbage takes a little bit of coaxing to get shredded but it does a good job. I put the rinsed cones & top of the device in my dishwasher and hand wash the base to preserve the suction base.

Stand is good but blades are dull. Bought to replace one purchased 40 years ago. Not nearly the same quality.

The clamp screw is way too short. I need to clamp it to a regular kitchen cutting board, and the clamp screw is not nearly long enough. The top portion does not fit securely onto the clamp. The fit is so loose that the head rocks back and forth with every turn of the crank. The heads do not cut cleanly. Instead of shredded carrots, I have a pile of mangled chunks. I have an ancient crank processor that works well - it cuts far more cleanly after decades of use than this Volrath. I am returning this item, and strongly suggest that you do not buy one.
