Book is excellent but with an issue. The original poetry of Bullhe Shah is printer in Gurmukh (Punjabi) script and translation given alongside....It would have been great if the transliteration should have been either in Devnagri (Hindi) or in Roman script...Well....The positive side....Now I will have to learn to read Gurmukh script....

This work is good for so many reasons.it is affordable.It includes references not available to Indian public.It writes the correct form of some of compositions.It is written by a writer who has done research on Sufism braving terrorist threats and edicts of orthodoxy.and .... list can go on.On pain side,there is only one thing. This book is not for people who cannot read gurumukhi script. I also have poor grasp. So I suffered a bit.But pleasure of reading bulle shah is a heavenly delight which transcends scipt et al.

I have always been a fan of Bulle Shah but many a times the archaic Punjabi became incomprehensible. This book has given clarity to my understanding of this amazing sufi Saint. Thank you Christopher Shackle. Thank you Murty Classical Library for bringing out such classics.

This is a novel venture by Rohan Murty. This is a classic on Baba Bullhe Shah. The gurmukhi script is worth praising. I have read other versions of Bullhe Shahs Kafis but this is something far out. The translation in English maintains the mood and rhythm of punjabi version.

Though i returned this product, but it was my wrong buying only. I was expecting the translations to be in Hindi-English. Other than this, The book is rich in all sense.

Though the english translation is not that meticulous, but the book is very good.Beautifully crafted and i personally loved the fact that the original texts (in Gurmukhi) are included.

Wonderful book available at awesome price, a gift for whoever wants it and gets it.

This is a beautiful and necessary book. Bulleh Shah was a Punjabi humanist, who spread the message or love and tolerance. Anyone can benefit from his beautiful message, especially now when there there is so much strife and conflict in the world. The only interesting thing for me was that original text is in Gurumukhi and not in Shahmukhi, Bulleh shah wrote in Shahmukhi. It would have made more sense to have it in Shahmukhi. As a western Punjabi speaker, I can't read Gurumukhhi. Unfortunately, the same would be true for those who can only read Gurumukhi script. The English translation is beautiful and easy to read.

I am not going to try to compare the spiritual value of this publication to translations of other Sufi and related mystical poetry.What initially interested me was reading about the new project launched by Murty Classical Library of India, associated withHarvard University Press, which plans to be the largest compendium of various religious works from Asia ever translatedinto English. Naturally it will not be 100% inclusive as few individuals would be able to afford or to store, or to translatesuch a huge volume of work, but it will cover a variety of religious traditions, all in hardbacks of uniform appearance. Thepaper is acid-free. The cloth binding is bright crimson, and the dust jackets are a very slightly more muted crimson, witha dusky gold design (mostly around the spine both front and back jacket) and front jacket titling in white and gold Englishtext. They all have a logo near the bottom center which is a stylized elephant with curled trunk.The translator is Christopher Shackle from the University of London.I saw a couple different listings of this book which listed both different price and a different number of pages, which I foundconfusing. I seem to have sorted it out. Although you may see this listed as containing 496 pages, what it contains is 443regular numbered pages, 36 pages of introduction with roman numerals (and as the initial pages are blank, the numberedintroductory pages start at vii) and a bunch of blank pages at the end. So, whether it says 443 pgs, 496 or some numberin between, so far there is ONLY one edition. Here's a random sample of verse:Everything else is of no account; there is only God.Some of the confusion has been created byreligious scholars, some by paperthat has driven people mad.All verses have their Sanskrit text on the opposite side to the English(Sanskrit left-side; English right-side).This is going to be a truly classic series.

This book is just beautifully made and I'm so happy to have the opportunity to read it in English. I'm happy to have it in my library and hope to have all of them as they're released.
