Excellent Mixer, Great Service
I bought this Mackie 1604 VLZ3 from a company that sells through Amazon. They were great. We exchanged a couple of emails about the product, and it arrived just as they said.I use the mixer in recording. The direct outs, sub outs, and the many other signal routing options makes my workload much easier. The parametric EQ and preamps sound better to me than anything digital. Best of all, the controls are all out in front of you, not buried in a menu.

Would I recommend this board. I definitely would.
I use this board in the studio and for live shows. In the studio. I use it as a tracking board in the studio. By using a combination of the 8 direct outs on channels 1-8 and then the four subs on 9-12 and the stereo main out on 13&14 and 2 aux. busses I can get 16 discrete channels to feed my converters and feed my Pro Tools rig. Using it for a small live show I can " sniff" the channels to feed a recording rig or a second board to use as a multi-mix monitor board. By patching in an EQ or two and an outboard FX I can do some amazing things with this board. In addition to this board I use an older version when I need more channels. This board is very easy to work with. Almost intuitive. It's got a good feel to it. There are other boards out there that have more features and a lower price. I've tried some and wished that I hadn't spent the money on them. This is pricier than the ones made by the "B" company but more than worth the cost. You get what you pay for.

great mixer. don't buy one used.
this is a pretty good mixer. it has enough ins and outs for most jobs, and a powerful enough EQ to handle most of the things you'd need to do. DO NOT DO WHAT I DID... I wanted to save a little (OK a lot) of money by buying a used 1604 VLZ (not a VLZ3, the VLZ"s are much older). it was absolutely terrible. it had constant problems, and half the channels didn't even work. if you're going to buy one of these, buy a new one.disclaimer: contrary to what I implied in this review, these mixers do last if you take care of them. the used one I bought was only terrible because I bought a super cheap one that I thought would still work. these mixers do last IF you take care of them.
