Not bad but overpriced
This is a great unit if you're considering a revo k101 or a GB macro. For the price I expected a better build quality, but so far all games run that I've tested so far. It seems to be running an older revo firmware which means that there are some minor graphic bugs like when capturing a city in Advance Wars it looks stretched for a moment, but they are minor and rare. You do need to hit * + Start to copy the game saves to the SD card which is a little tedious and if you forget you can lose your save. This issue doesn't seem to happen with carts and if you exit to the menu to switch games it seems to save it, but hopefully that can be fixed to be more automatic in a firmware update. Speaking of firmware, the website link for firmware is broken but you don't need it. You can just put your games on a card, pop it in, and it works. Gb/gbc games and NES games run through built in versions of goomba and pocketnes emulators which is nice. The screen looks great and you can set it to use the correct aspect ratio by default. It does still have black bars like the revo, but this screen is wider so the bars are a lot smaller and games look great. A 3ds screen protector fits well. Having the shoulder buttons added to the face is nice for games like street fighter 2. The audio with headphones sounds really good and overall it's a nice soc clone, but for $120 I did expect a more premium build quality. The build quality isn't too bad, and it's better than the revo, but the sides of the plastic casing are slightly not flush on mine and the plastic itself feels cheap. Also the battery life is around 3-4 hours on the highest brightness.

More cheaply made than it appears
I have to admit, I was enticed by the description, and some of the youtube reviews and I bought this on a whim.Weaknesses:The hardware feels very cheap. I'm not one to really worry about the "feel" of a device, but the poor construction carries onto everything else: the button feel, the sound quality, etc. Light leaks through the plastic near the speaker. I already had to take it apart once, due to the B button becoming stuck in. It doesn't seem at all like it'll hold up to any sort of heavy play.In addition to apparently being fragile, the buttons don't give very good feedback. They're soft, and soft enough that they don't spring back very quickly when pressing them. (this is almost certainly how my B button became stuck in) The D-Pad doesn't have a rocker, so you can hit all four directions at once, and of course is too soft and too unresponsive like the other face buttons. The L & R buttons, which I thought would be a major selling point, (since the L & R on the AGS-001 are poorly placed, and the L & R of the GBA SP are cramped) are bad in their own ways. They have a different mechanism, and therefore are "clicky" rather than spongy like the face buttons. This would be fine, except they can't be pressed via the corner: your finger must come directly above the innermost edge of the button, and can't be hit at comfortable angle.Further the emulation of other systems is VERY spotty. A couple of the Gameboy Color games I tried had graphical glitches, audio glitches, and constant slowdown. So, it's not as if you could simple settle for 90% emulation; in many cases you really can't play the games due to emulation speed. And seriously, when was the last time you saw inaccurate Gameboy emulation? The old black and white Gameboy games seem to run a little better, but I still experienced a lot of audio glitches. It's not the end of the world, it's just that Gameboy emulation ought to be bulletproof on something like this. NES emulation seems a little bit better, but is still certainly not accurate, simply full speed unlike the Gameboy emulation.Playing GBA games from the included MicroSD card adapter seems to work just as nicely as playing them from a cart. So far, my GBA games on the MicroSD card adapter do NOT save, but I haven't looked into this to determine if this is something I need to configure, or can fix. Either way, it seems that GBA games on the MicroSD card will NOT save out of the box.The single speaker is also of very poor quality. Certainly, it's inferior to the stock speakers in the official GBA models, and certainly inferior to the speakers in older Gameboy & Gameboy color models.Strengths:The display really is very nice. It's nice to have a much larger display for these games. Perhaps given the other weaknesses, this system with its nice bright display might be nice some slower paced games where the controls are not the most important aspect.Likewise, having the option for L & R to be used as either face buttons or shoulder buttons is fantastic. I suspect that some games might be easier to control on this system for this reason alone -- despite the other problems. I can't imagine getting through Super Mario World GBA on a regular system, trying to do the spin-jump with a shoulder button.Last word?If you're into this sort of thing, there are far better options out there: GPD, PSP, DS Lite, 3DS, etc. A product of this poor quality should have been $30.
