I'm just learning to cast reel. I went from a 9 foot pole to an 11 foot. THAT, made all the difference. My neighbor suggested that I put braided line on it. Incredible....Now, with a 3oz sinker, I can reliably cast over 130 yards. This reel is awesome.

Penn 15SD Level Wind on a Shimano TC4 Termar has been nothing short of amazing. I was in the market for a 12SD but the 15SD was cheaper thus a better value. The Level Wind was a unexpected bonus as it still manages to cast well beyond my skill level. To be clear, I am just getting back into fishing after a 10 year hiatus but I consider myself far from a newbie. I have used conventional bait cast reels for more than 20 years so please take note as there may be a learning curve. In my case I did not get 100% dialed in for nearly 3 weeks. Now my casting is accurate and predictable. It almost feels like cheating.With that said, almost all of today's fishing tech is much improved over my early 2000's gear and the 15SDLW is no exception. I use it for bay fishing in SoCal and I also purchased the 15LD2 for my light duty open water jig stick (15LD2 + Calstar Deckhand Special). Both reels are excellent but the 15SDLW gets the most use making my favorite and abused reel by far.

Bin pulling in 5 ' sharkes with ease

Had this reel for less than 1 year! Fishing for halibut today;trolling when the level wind broke! Piece of crap!

Model 15lw absolutely awesome reel. Use for inshore bottom fishing, as well as lake trolling. Met all my expectations and then some. Super smooth, ton of drag, an all around work horse. I do wish it would auto engage when you turn the handle from free spool but other then that has exceeded all my expectations.

I have not used this reel just yet, But I am going to enjoy reeling in Fish with this reel on the Ocean on Charter boats and on my Own Boat. I buy mostly Penn reels and have Spinning and conventional ones I use a lot, I switch up using them depends on species of fish I am After though. Mostly I love Ocean Fishing when ever I can go to the ocean . My Slammer is one I use and sweet reel it is.

I don’t think you can beat this real for the money.

Used all season with no issues so far. Weight is not a concern for me, so I think that it's fine, not really a graphite or plastic or composite reel person.
