July, 2019 Update: Broken Hinge and A Few Other Doggy Doo Details
Thanks to Ubbi Customer Service for their nice reply to my original review. I'm sorry I didn't see it until now. I may check out that FreshWave for use near the cat litter box.Bought the diaper pail in early 2018, so have used it with general satisfaction for about 18 months. The cobalt blue exterior color has held up beautifully. I noticed a teeny bit of rust on the inside awhile ago and have taken care to clean and allow it to dry thoroughly in the sun every week, which is working fine. I haven't had the problem some people have mentioned with bothersome smell when I drop in the bag. But I'm using it for my 65-lb dog's poop bags, which are smaller than diapers, so the process takes about a second. And it has served well for this purpose. It does smell bad when I take it out right before garbage pickup each week. I don't really mind, as the bag is tied up and in the bin at the curb within 20 seconds. I guess after changing my daughter's diapers for 3+ years, my nose toleration level has strenghtened. Over time, though, I noticed that AFTER throwing out the bag and doing a quick clean, the Ubbi still smelled. That's when I started a somewhat deeper cleaning regime on bag-changing day, involving disinfectant wipes, bathroom spray, and, most importantly, making sure to clean around the rubber seal. Then I let it sit open outside all day. This really makes a difference.Earlier this week, I was going through the routine and one of the hinges that attaches the top broke. A plastic piece just snapped. Tried to fit it back in place. No dice. And no way to glue it effectively. For the moment, I'm hoping I can still use it because the top fits into place and the little sliding door and lock work. Fingers crossed that it continues to contain the smell when closed and locked. So far, so good.I'm disappointed that the hinge broke, but not changing my star rating because overall, the Ubbi has resolved the problem for which I bought it and has performed its function very well for a year and half.August 2018 Review: This is a good diaper pail for my purposes. We got a puppy last year, and I was putting the bags of poop in the garbage. Then one night, my husband told me he'd opened the bin to squeeze in some more on collection day, and nearly keeled over from the smell. Seriously, he's no wimp when it comes to things like odors, and if he said he almost retched, I knew we had a problem. The Ubbi solved the problem. It contains the odors when the top is closed and locked. I empty it once a week on trash day (AFTER my husband leaves for work.) I don't really smell anything when I open the door to drop in bags. I do smell it when I open the top to throw out the big bag, but I think that's to be expected. I put some homemade baking-soda absorbent cakes in the bottom, and they don't really help. I usually open the top and let the can sit outside for several hours after emptying it, and sometimes spray with disinfectant. The clip that holds the bag in place isn't quite as simple as I'd like, though the amount of extra effort it takes is miniscule. I handle it gingerly, because it seems like the clip could break, and that would impact the functionality. I'm very happy with this as a solution, and after six months, the paint and metal still look like new. I'm using the tall kitchen bags that I buy at Costco. Wish there were an affordable biodegradable bag I could use with this, but that's certain no reflection on the quality of the Ubbi.Would have gotten four stars if the price weren't so high. Was glad to save a few bucks on the bright cobalt color, which looks nice in the garage.

Great diaper pail!
This is an excellent diaper pail! My husband and I really looked into the different diaper pails that were available and what one would be the best to spend our money on. We originally were going to go with a different brand until a friend of ours asked if that one had a lock feature. I was confused and asked why our diapers would need to be locked up; she explained if there were toddlers over or if we had a second baby the older child might try and open up the diaper pail and reach in (I guess she was speaking from experience). I had never thought of that and really like the lock feature. Our newborn has been here for just over a week; and we love the diaper pail. His stools have just started to have a scent; but when in the pail you cannot smell it.We actually bought two and have one in living room and you wouldn’t even know it’s there.

worth the extra $$
We've gone through our share of diaper Pails. I went rogue this time after the diaper decor plus started smelling and bought this expensive beast.Definitely built a few notches about the Dekors and Genies that are common place. The bag loading is easy. We went with the brand name bags so I don't know how other bags would work.Bag loading is easy. There is no knot to put in the bottom (if you have a Dekor then you know the terror that is a poorly tied bag). The "hatch" is simple and solid. It would be nice if it was hands free but the sacrifice is that odors don't leak out so I'm ok with it.Great product. Wish we had found this with our first child. The diaper Dekor, genie, etc just can't mask the smell as kids get older. The idea of sealing it off is novel and done very effectively with this product.Side note: you can not let diapers "marinate" in here. It needs to be emptied before you go on vacation or when you return and open it you will die.

Overall I am pretty happy with this diaper pail
Overall I am pretty happy with this diaper pail. We previously had the Arm and Hammer/Munchkin pail with our first kiddo and the twisting mechanism got stuck frequently and did not close smoothly. This pail is much easier, the opening mechanism is very smooth. It does not have a "hands free" step to open option but that isn't bothersome to me as my hands are already dirty from changing a diaper. Additionally, I like that it comes in a variety of colors and uses regular trash bags. There are some downsides to the pail though. We started out using a cheap-ish trash bag and every time I changed the bag I was afraid it would tear open. It never did, but the top opening is narrow and you have to pull the bag with some force to get it out. Also, I can't speak to the "stink catching" ability of the pail yet. We just have a newborn and those diapers are not particularly stinky compared to that of a solid food eating kiddo. We'll see how it goes.

Nice Try but Needs More Work
The Ubbi is like the nice try of diaper pails that needs some more work.Cons:It's big claim about being steel so it doesn't absorb odors like other plastic pails is great except the bag holder on the inside is plastic and that absorbs odors. Also, it's steel not stainless so if it gets wet and doesn't dry completely it will rust. Why not use stainless steel? The second thing is how there is a lock on the sliding door to child proof it so your child isn't rummaging around in dirty diapers. But a perceptive child will quickly learn that you can access the dirty diapers but simply lifting the top lid. It's like having a dead bolt in a pocket door.Pros:Though the rubber seals do lock in the smell so when the pail is closed and full, you can't smell the diapers. That's a huge plus bc the diaper genie can stink when there is a full bag and the pail is closed. But beware about keeping a full bag in there you will have to open it to change it! Old diapers really stink!!!Another plus is being able to use any bag which is a big cost saver over time.In conclusion, good idea but needs some more work.

The Ubbi diaper pail looks great, it holds a lot of nappies and is very easy to use. Since it does hold a lot, when you open the little trap door to drop-in a new nappy, you get pummelled with the wonderful odour that wafts up to your face; it's quite pleasant indeed. Changing the bag is pretty easy, you open the lid, pull the old one out and drop in a new one; any bag will do. Please do this outside, away from anything living if at all possible, as the aroma is quite noxious. I purchased two.

Cloth diaper necessity
Kind of expensive but worth it as it works perfectly for cloth diapering, keeps all of the smell in and easily holds 2-3 days worth of diapers. Really well made product! I will say that I don't think it would be ideal for disposable diapers since it only opens from the top, you can't really compact your diapers (love you can with the front opening of the diaper genie) so (i think) you'd be replacing your bags really often (purely speculation as I use a diaper genie for my overnight disposables)

Buen producto
Bastante bueno si lo consigues por el precio adecuado. No es infalible y no creas que sí dejas una semana los pañales no va a salir el aroma, pero es bastante bueno, sobre todo si compras a parte un desodorante o una bolsa de esas de carbón activado

Better then the genie
We had one for 3 years, it sort of broke apart. Wife bought a diaper genie. When i did the math, i realized how much this metal pail was cheaper vs buying genie cartriges. Also using th genie was a pain vs this one. So i rebought this pail, plus, the blue one goes with the baby boys room, so the wife ( who is still a genie fan) accepted it. Best mothers day present ever....

If there ever was an awesome poop can, this is it
This is more expensive up front than other options, but totally worth it since we don't have to buy specific bags. We used grocery bags in it when we were using disposables, and we bought the ubbi washable bags when we started using washable diapers. Both types of bags work, and the can keeps any smells contained. Highly recommend.
