Johnson Pump05503-00 12V 500 GPH Cartridge Combo Bilge Pump,red,black

I purchase this to replace my 7 year old one just because I was worried about it. Still works just fine but have to depend on keeping boat above water. Highly recomended. Used this for 7 summers and always works.

The pump is very well made, I tested in a bucket of water, float switch works great. Fitting are well made and seal tight. Now the instructions on the other hand..... What a joke. Johnson Pump should be ashamed. Wire labels were completely wrong, wiring diagram was a joke. I had to set a battery on the floor next to a bucket of water, ohm all the wires. Black wires do not go to positive like the labels said. I had to search the internet and found that others had the exact same problem.

Easily replaced my older Yellow Johnson pump and switch. I did not install housing, only took out pump and switch from new pump and snapped into place, a little wiring and done. It installed under my 5.0 litre motor which is why the cartridge swap was easiest.. Great item.

Let me make if clear that I am a Harry homeowner level mechanic. So what I am saying is from that perspective. I was trying to replace a Rule 500 GPH auto pump with this unit that was wired for both auto and manual operations. It was totally confusing and the instructions were crap. My Rule had three wires, on brown, on brown and whit striped and one black. One for feed for auto op, one for manual op and one for ground. This had two browns and a black and it was not obvious how to wire it.....It is almost as though you had to have a special switch with this unit. Unless you are very knowledgeable about wiring, I would stay away from this unit. My rating is based on installation only since I couldn't get the dam thing to work becasue of the wiring.

I bought this pump as a replacement to an identical pump that burned out in Hurricane Irene after a frayed rope got caught in the pump intake (my fault - not the pump's). This is a great little pump. I use it in a 14 ft uncovered aluminum boat that stays out all summer. It's always done a fine job. It's easy to install and operate. You can also buy just the pump cartridge which twists out easily from the plastic housing.

Pump is a easy install and works well.
