Genuine Sakai Artisan Handcraft
This is a very good product for this price (165mm for under $100 usd). It is Basic, but is basically everything a Japanese hand made deba knife should be expected to be. Properly grinded finished and sharpened white steel #2, single-beveled with uraoshi, magnolia handle, well finished true Buffalo horn ferrule, nicely hand chiseled maker's mark. The blade has proper heft with a 7+mm thick spine, and all the Kasumi finishing is present. The ONE neglected spot (on mine) is a basically unfinished blade heel/choil... a good bit of rough steel and iron there, acceptable given the price and the quality of the rest of the piece, kind of adds to the hand made flame-forged nature of it, but should be noted as a demerit. As is the case with all high carbon iron-cladded blades, it will be rust and patina prone all over the blade, so just take good care of it; hand wash and dry it and lightly oil it for long term unused storage.I just think this is such a genuine quality piece from a competent Sakai smith whose work has relatively low distribution. This is worth it at the price and I'm very pleased with the product and transaction.
