Too short for my purpose
This brass guitar slide would probably be good for any musician playing regular electric or acoustic guitar. However, this slide did not work for me because the 60 mm length is too short to cover all the strings of my lap guitars, whose custom elevated nut and bridge spread out the strings. This slide is in competition with the Fender Brass Slide, Fat Large FBS2 that is about the same size and thickness. I have been playing with it for 15 years and I really like it — see my review. Also, Dunlop has two concave brass slides that are somewhat longer. The Dunlop 232 Harris Concave Slide (large) is 20.5 mm ID and 63.5 mm long and the Dunlop 227 Concave Brass Slide is 19 mm ID and 65 mm long. If you need a concave slide, I like these a lot. I hope this review helps you decide which slide is right for you. And above all, enjoy playing your guitar!

#224 Large Heavy Brass Dunlop Slide
This rating system, newly asks for itemised "Stars". Overall it's a 5 Star which I rarely give. Since they break it out, the OR is 5, but the Comfort, well, until they provide custom sleeves to ring-size it down (which they could) as it comes, it is the largest in all dimensions I have or have seen and *wanted for it's weight and size. So Dunlop, sizing sleeves for the larger ones would be great. I think a pressure fit, and if added a bit of rubber cement, that would be that and could be removed if cared to.The Giftable label -- well, if you care about the packaging being perfect, you can't count on that if shipped in an envelop or stored prior to shipping "loose". The thin plastic pack maybe a bit buggered on the edges. I can see though, it was not open or a return since the bar-code sticker sealed mine. Otherwise, yeah!, giftablle! (I use different slides for diff reasons on diff instruments, setups, some sound better, if bigger/smaller rather than a new setup.)As for the "Value for Money" label -- the price is correct at this level. The others at even a bit more, let alone double, really?, for what? (Then I'll got to an old piece of machinery and pull a bearing, use a sparkplug/socket, or check etc.)I was glad to see this here on Amazon, and shipped fast, safe via the best carrier -- I love when an order goes perfectly!

Strongly recommended for bottleneck slide playing - any musical style!
One of the best slides out there, imo. While certain different qualities still cause me to want to use other material slides (ceramic, glass, steel, etc.) at certain times, this thick-walled brass slide is definitely my main go-to!There's an impressive breadth and fullness of tone with this Dunlop 224, and it's a blast for both acoustic and electric guitars. It's hefty weight can fatigue my pinky after a while, but I can't get this tone with any of my other slides!Due to the heft, it can be challenging to avoid hitting the frets, but with some practice (and perhaps higher action), it's worth the effort!I have a dozen or so slides of various materials, but I've yet to come across a better slide for robust, amazingly toned, thick and yet perfectly clear slide sound quality!

Heavy, man!
I gave it a four because, technically, it's flawless. But I probably won't wind up using because it's really to heavy to be practical. If you plan on using this with an instrument that you also fret at all, you might be disappointed. Probably really great for a lap steel though or if you like really high action and/or heavy string. Also, I don't remember if it was elaborated in the description, but it's for a 12.5 ring size, FYI.Day 2 update: I was wrong. I find I *am* using it. I'm still not sure it will usurp my glass, but it's fun switching to it for a change.

Nice feel
I was having trouble getting a clean sound with a glass slide on my acoustic j 24 dpi. When I did, I had to press too hard and could not get any tremolo effect. With the Dunlop 224 Brass Slide, it is effortless. The weight of the brass brings out the notes, and with practice I HAVE ELIMINATED THE BUZZ! NICE CLEAN, BLUESY, ROCK'N SOUNDS. I am new to slide guitar but now that I can get a clean, tremolo sound I am on my way. You have to find a slide that you are comfortable with and what finger you get the best results from playing. I will try it on my Les Paul soon. Take care everyone……Thanks Dunlop….I love your brass slide 224.

Great tone, heavy slide.
Great tone. Fuller than a glass slide. Very heavy, though, if you are playing with it on your pinky. You have to really press your ring finger against the side of it to maintain good contact with the strings. I have big hands, and didn't think the weight would be an issue, but it is.The weight is part of why this slide has great tone, though, so it is worth figuring out how to make this thing work.

Pros and Cons about even
This slide warms and deepens the sound which is what I expected, but is extremely large making it awkward and way too heavy, especially for those of us who play slide with our pinkie. This product arrived in a timely fashion, so ridiculously over packed that is is obvious that this company was trying to hide the fact that they are selling a small length of overpriced metal plumbing and has no regard for the earth or the matrix of life our planet supports. However It was so inexpensive it is not worth returning.I used a piece of artists' kneaded eraser so that I could play with this otherwise unusable product.

Woke up this morning with a new slide
Heavy slide, definite improvement from the other glass slide i’ve been using. Probably too large and heavy for a pinky use. I use it on my ring finger, and find the weight improves glissando attacks and vibrato. It makes playing more physical, which usually a good thing.

Good balance of weight and smooth tone
Have been trying to find a slide that was heavier than my ceramic but less harsh sounding than my steel. This is perfect on both counts, helping me play with lighter pressure but still getting good tone. Only issue is size as the one shipped is too large for my pinky finger, but I stuck some rolled up packing foam in and it fits.

I like it, but the description could be better
Fits nicely on my ring finger - I don't know my ring size but it says 12.5 on the packet and 13 in the ad. I like the weight and the sound and I don't seem to need to use a finger to damp the strings above the slide. It is actually a model 224 - would be helpful if the ad stated this, then you could look up the correct dimensions on the JD web site. These are "Heavy Wall Thickness - Medium (22 x 29 x 60mm)" not the nonsense in the ad.

Great sound
Very good product, I play in delta blues style (Fred McDowell or Son House) and that rings !! even with the worst of guitar. We need a thick heavy slide to play in that style . A little bit pricey but what a feeling ! nice lookin , First choice without any doubt

Stellar
Heavy, well finished and very good value. I had looked for a while before I found this - many others were three times the price - I wanted the "Tone Dome" - but it's only available in US - v. expensive plus postage. But this is an excellent sub. Very Happy.
