Radio Free Earth: Community Preparedness and Two Way Radios Paperback – September 1, 2018

I want to like this book but it's hard to.Entire first section is all about one world government, martial law and conspiracy theories. Don't get me wrong, I'm actually into all that stuff. But it has no place in a book about 2 way radio communications, besides maybe a page or two.Overview of available options feels poorly organized. Some things are too detailed and others not enough. I didn't come away feeling that I had a solid understanding of everything. May be my aging brain.Focus of book is how to set up a large group of people to communicate with each other. It's basically about defending your commune / compound from outside attack. Talk of the 'kill zone' and such. They assume you have a hundred or so people, and so can assign discrete communication system tasks to many of them. An 'antenna guy' and a 'software guy' and so on. I'm just one dude and if I'm lucky I'll only have a few other folks around me so much of it did not apply.No coverage of 900 Mhz band digital radios, which I am very interested in. They get a one sentence mention but no coverage. How can this be? With everything but FRS and GMRS now requiring a license, digital 900 Mhz fills a position of critical importance in the range of 2 way comm options.The whole book feels like it was written by two old guys who have bizarre agendas and are not up to date. Sad, as this is the most recently published book on the topic, and SHTF scenario planning is what I am doing.The ultimate goal of the book is to encourage a 'Radio Free Earth' network of people talking to each other outside the bounds of MSM / telecomm control. This is a noble idea and probably their real reason for writing the book. But it doesn't help me much now, when I'm trying to learn about 2 way comm hardware that will work for the light duties I expect.Also the other two reviews don't look legit. One guy says it's awesome but not much more and the other guy says it's everything you need to know about ham radio, which couldn't be further from the truth.I guess I should praise the guys for writing the book - it's of some use for sure. But I'm disappointed overall.

I own two copies and reference this book often. I have built my ham shack/ communication plan off this book and feel it very helpful in explaining how all communications work worldwide. Marshall takes you step by step with great advice from a independent perspective and tells you what to buy and how it will be use in a survival situation which we all operate in everyday. His mock situations help the reader understand the reasoning for doing things and he always taps into experts in their fields. A must have, and a must read and understand.

Great book ,large print easy to read.I When the end of civilization comes you will know most all there is to know about communications.What to use how to use it The book could have touched more on antennas but that could be a book in itself..If you are a prepper or just want to be prepared to communicate when the next disaster hits or whatever.When there is no cell phone no power.. Id also recommend "Emergency Survival Communicatuons" by Dave Ingram also an excellent book but slightly dated.

Just finished reading the Radio Free Earth book. Speaking as former army signal officer (many years ago) Masters & Brayton did an excellent job. You do not have to be a radio nerd to grasp the information in the book. The technical information presented is thorough and practical. The strategic and tactical advice is sound should be heeded.

This book reads like some religious zealot wrote it and takes you into a new world order style frame of mind with intense re organization theories for end of the world senerios. learned nothing about radio.
