Markell heater
Well made. Had this brand heater before . Good safety option with the cage in front in case of a tip over. Heater is energy efficient .

Worst spent money ever
"Practical Winter Accessory: ideal to warm small spaces like garages, workshops, warehouses, laundry rooms, bedroom. Space heater with easy DIY installation flexibility. Delivers fast startup and low noise performance"This space heater barely has enough fan power to heat a closet let alone a "small space like a garage"...I have sent spent $57 at Costco for a much more effective heater. For the time being, I am living in a camper and this heater will not heat at all. It is not much more than a radiant space heater for my feet.Advice: DO NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY>

Last almost identical heater lasted over 25 years (different color)
I am extremely happy to have found this heater. Had the same Markel heater but different color for many years. Twenty years back I needed a small space heater but thought they did not still make this heater. I have tried at least 6+ heater. None heated as fast or had as many settings that worked. Just bought the second one to heat the bathroom quickly in the morning. About a year after purchase and still working perfectly.

Markel 198 tmc
I have owned 10-12 of these Markel heaters over the last 40 years. The earliest were blue, then brown then white. The blue and brown work for years and years with only an occasional dust cleaning. The white models are China made and are OK except for one fatal flaw: the wire connections to the elements burn out and thus no heat is produced. Markel was good enough to replace my two heaters, but they too burned out. So I bought some good high heat wire connectors and a crimping tool, and replace/recrimp them as needed. (the old connectors fall apart like carbon.) Otherwise the heaters seem fine for my home and summer cabin. I realize this type of repair isn't for everybody but it works for me. Mind you I bought my last two heaters about 5 years ago so hopefully Markel has improved their Chinese connectors.I do like the heat settings for these including the no fan lower setting.PS (march 2011) I purchased two more of these heaters in January 2011. One element has just quit in the same fashion as before. I must now get out my repair kit.

All metal heater that really puts out the heat. The fan is quiet and works on medium, high
I like the all metal construction and the heating elements. This has a fan for medium and high and the unit is small enough to place where needed. Has a reset button on the unit unlike most heaters. Has a large grill to keep objects far enough away for safety. I think this is a quality heater, but only time will tell, so far so good. The paint looks durable and is a nice off white color. This type of electric heater is hard to find and think people will be happy with it.

Powerhouse Heater !
I just received this heater today and it had a loose heating element support, I managed to pop it back in place. So I’m deducting 1 star from the overall rating because of that. Im also having amazon send me a replacement unit, as I’m not sure if it will stay in place long term. Otherwise it appears to be well made. I have tried other types of heaters, including ceramic and infrared in my living room. Those others would not effectively supplement my main heat source, by raising the temperature more than a degree or two. This heater puts out a great amount of heat on its high setting. The heat output on high is enough that sitting 12 feet from it I had to turn it down. The thermostat works well maintaining the temperature you set it to. It’s pricey for a heater, but I live in New Hampshire where the temperature drops to single digits. Its definitely worth it, as I’m going to buy another one for my bedroom !

Great room heater with an unfortunate flaw.
Great room heater with a serious flaw. The connector that joins the wiring to the heating element is made of brass and overheats to the point that the wire end becomes brittle and breaks the connection. I fixed this by replacing the brass connector with a 1/16" double barrel copper ferule that I bought at my local hardware store for $1.49 each.Open the back of the heater, remove the brass connector, strip the end of the wire and crimp the ferule with a pair of needle nose pliers onto the two ends inside the ceramic insulator where the connection is made.I repaired one heater about three years ago and the second just this past week. They both have worked great since the repair.

sad....
Ive had this heater for 3 winters now and I must say at first this heater looked and felt very tough. I liked it because it is made of metal and not plastic like most other heaters. The first winter it worked well even though the Hi/med/low/off knob broke off (turns out that was the only plastic part on it and i was walking by and just clipped my foot on it and it snapped right off). Into the second winter i could tell that the temperature gauge was going and it was either on non stop or off for good. It didnt really matter where i set the temperature. Now into the third winter one of the heating elements has gone and now i am down to one which gives me no options for hi/med/low. Also id like to comment that the fan has become increasingly noisy over the years. Maybe I am being too hard on this little heater but i can say that i have not been hard on it or used it a lot. For 60 dollars i expected more and had i read the reviews here first i probably would have bought a different unit for the price.
