When shortages come... you want "bang for your buck" in the nutrition dept... Lentils are the way to go. Can be boiled and mixed with tuna or something for your critters also.Shelf life great... Of course higher priced than buying smaller bags from the grocery store... but they don't give you long term storage..(bug and mouse free) alsoGood sturdy container that after the item is used up, can be used for a multitude of other things.Have ordered from this company, many times. Of course they have to make money to stay in business, but they don't gouge you.... for the most part, you get value for your money when you buy them on sale.It'd be a real good idea to have a bunch of their long term storage stuff, stashed away. You'll be glad you did... and all their stuff taste good.

Great for when TSHTF

I gave it a straight "4" rating because I haven't opened it and won't until an emergency. Price was reduced by 39% so it seems a good deal. Most of my emergency supply was purchased six years when prices for emergency food was about 50-100% less expensive. It'll only get worse as the recession deepens and protracts under the Democrats.

The lid was popped loose and some spilled out- Cannot use for long term storage but will eat them this year.

I'm really happy and relieved that I received the product without any damage. The product was shipped from PA and arrived in NYC in 2 days packaged in Amazon box and inner Augason box which is strong and rigid. I will leave bucket in Augason box and cover with black garbage bag to keep out the lights.

Value is best i could find anywhere. We have opened one pail and the rice is good quality and just what we are used to.

There are quite a few negative reviews for this product showing images of damaged packages, lentils spilt everywhere, etc.I just wanted to be fair and throw in a positive review stating that I received by big bucket of an emergency protein source aka lentils.I don't want to break the ~25 year seal, so I can't do a taste test or what not. But I am pleased with my purchase and peace of mind for my family of 4 is achieved by having this added to my "prepper" kit.Without being able to verify contents due to seal, I just have to assume all is fine. With that said, I have nothing bad to say about my purchase and don't see any reason why to subtract any stars.

I ordered these lentils to build up my emergency food storage. It is a great value right now and would be a good addition to my supply. However, when the order arrived the lid had come off the bucket and lentils were spilled out. I lost less than a cup of lentils but I was frustrated because breaking the seal can reduce the shelf life of this item. I haven't initiated a return because it was such a small amount, but maybe Augason Farms can consider vacuum packaging the lentils before throwing them into the bucket.
