Following my previous review I have read the other reviews on this book.▪Apparently reviews from paper copies and Kindle downloads are mixed together. They do not refer to the same product. Those who bought the PAPER COPY were delighted with the skill of the author. The KINDLE VERSION was incomprehensible.▪Amazon, you must really do a lot better and read a book before you post it. You are continuing to take people's good money on false pretences.▪IStung by this I downloaded a preview of "In Praise of Shadows" by the same author to check the translation. The download stops at the content page. That's no use at all! Amazon you must do a lot better than this!

Some time ago I read Tanizaki's wonderful "The Makioka Sisters". Seeing the present book with its many positive reviews, I downloaded it. But I was astonished to see that the translation from Japanese into English is nothing but gobbledygook. It is simply the output of a machine translation, often making no sense at all. The only merit of the garbled text is the demonstration of the fact that translation software is useless and totally inappropriate for literary works.

Una interesante historia de un hombre obsesionado y manipulado por su esposa (Naomi). Relación que al paso de los años se hace mucho más destructiva.

Terrible translation. Looks like someone put the original japanese text in Google translate. Garbage!

Le récit d'un amour fou et inconditionnel pour une (trop) jeune fille et un homme un peu trop mur. Naomi est l'archétype des "modern girl" de l'ère Meiji, qui a précipité le Japonais la modernité. L'anglais utilisé est facile à lire.
