Getting harder to find a good mSATA SSD (this is one)
The tiny mSATA form-factor SSD is on its way out, replaced by the confusing NGFF/M.2 standard. Many of the major manufacturers have already discontinued mSATA drives and left-over stock is dwindling. What remains are drives from companies I've never heard of before with questionable quality and performance (and warranty).Fortunately Amazon still has Kingston mSATA drives available at a good price. I've actually been using mSATA drives in tiny enclosures as seriously fast USB flash drives. This one now resides in an enclosure that measures just 2.5 x 1.5 inches, and less than 3/8th of an inch thick (roughly 65x40x9mm), and it delivers well over 400MBps read/write performance with good IOPS over USB 3.0 (should be at least 100MBps faster as an internal drive).Amazon still seems to have a few Samsung mSATA drives, but they're much more expensive, and this Kingston performs about the same as my 850 EVO in another enclosure (to be fair, the Samsung would probably be faster as an internal drive, but the Kingston is very good, and offers great bang for the buck).Available capacity is 480,069,550,080 bytes (may vary a little from drive to drive), which works out to 447GB of storage. So 32GB (about 6%) is reserved for over-provisioning, which improves performance and longevity. Kingston's SSD manager software said the firmware was current and the drive was healthy. The SSD manager software is pretty basic. There is a secure erase function, but there doesn't seem to be any adjustments to over provisioning or other performance settings (like I said, pretty basic). The Kingston UV500 SSD has a Marvell 88SS1074 controller with 3D TLC NAND flash memory. The 480GB model is rated for a minimum of 200TB written and has a 5-year warranty. It's also available in 2.5 inch and M.2 form factors.

Can't beat a Kingston
Big fan of Kingston, this product sits in my pfSense firewall box for last year. Depending on what computer you install it in, it is a breeze. Good value for money.

Quality Product from Kingston
Outstanding SSD from Kingston. Installation in the T530 Thinkpad could not have been easier. Performance is excellent. One thing I really liked was that Kingston didn't go nuts with convoluted, complex packaging. Easy to get into with no sharp objects required and the MSATA drive was still well protected. The most difficult part of the install is getting Windows 10 to recognize the drive in the T530. Took a few looks around the web but once it was recognized by Win 10, the drive has performed admirably. I'd suggest getting this drive as Windows 10 now requires multiple gigabytes for updates. This is the least expensive option to keep the T530 and older Thinkpads updated and still rolling. The other drive in the Thinkpad is a 120 GB SSD and is allocated to the OS. Here in 2020, this new Kingston MSATA will likely give this product another 2 to 3 years of life in my kitchen. Definitely an excellent value for the price.

Surprisingly painfree upgrade
I have a 2013 era Dell Latitude with a 256 GB SSD mSATA drive. Out of space. Dell and documentation had no info on upgrade paths. For this price, why not try - lot less than a new PC. So purchased this drive with Acronis ($59) SW to clone the drive and also a "mSATA SSD Adapter to USB 3.0, Tanbin Mini SATA Use as Portable Flash Drive/External Hard Drive, 50mm Mini PCIe Solid State Drive Reader Converter Sold by: Tanbin Direct" to plug the drive into the USB for cloning. Installed Acronis, mounted the drive in the USB converter, ran the clone process (about an hour), turned off the laptop and 3 screws 5 minutes later, rebooted with 470GBs. One week now, and no issues. This is a review of a product I purchased for personal use. I have accepted no gifts, freebies, promotions or any other compensation.

No software to clone old SSD
Many replacement SSDs that I've seen include cloning software that would make it easy to replace the old one. Before purchasing this Kingston, I looked online on the Kingston website and thought that I would be able to download Acronis to help the transition. After receiving it, I sent a message to Kingston on 12/6/20 saying I couldn't find the right credentials to get Acronis to work. They didn't reply until 12/28/20 (22 days later) with: [How are you doing? The A400 does not come with a copy of Acronis. Acronis is paired with a few of the bundle kit versions of some 2.5" SATA drives as well as some of the M.2 NVMe drives. A free alternative that we recommend is Macrium Reflect Free Edition - Home Use:]Of course, in that 22 days of no response I found a solution myself using Clonezilla. I have no problem with the drive itself, it's working fine, just very difficult to figure out how to install it as a replacement... and slow support response.

Great upgrade
Retrofitted my laptop and had to expand my storage. Today, there seems to be two options for mSata: Samsung and Kingston. Samsung mSata drives are way too expensive and Kingston is still affordable and reliable. I've been using this drive for over three months and there haven't been any problems.

Hard to find these
To upgrade those laptops that had the unfortunate design of a bridge between the standard sata interface and the m.2, some of us are stuck with a dying interface. These will become increasingly harder to find and this is a reasonable price for a solid item from a solid brand. This isn't going to set any speed records, but it is middle of the road performance for msata and I have found it stable without issues for a couple of months now.I found installation to be a little tricky as I had to search around for data migration software; I have gotten a little spoiled with Samsung in that regard.

Self Encrypting Drive!
This thing is awesome, it sped up my system and reduced boot times after upgrading from a 7200rpm mechanical drive. I also found out that it supports Self Encrypting Drive (SED) so you can have full disk encryption (on top of whatever bitlocker/veracrypt you already use) with basically 0 performance hits! I didn't know that before buying so I was very happy about that!

Good product, but be careful!
The mSATA SSD was to replace a smaller capacity drive in a Samsung laptop. The replacement is not so difficult - there is guidance on the web. However, . . .mSATA is what you need for a laptop and there is typically only one disc in a laptop. You therefore need to clone the existing disc to the new disc and then install it. Software is needed for this, so check that it comes with the deal you are looking at. I bought for about £65 (IT Trade Station), which is a good deal if you don't need the software (they were very rapid in delivery, and quick to respond when I pointed out that I had difficulties; they gave me a £25 refund - quite beyond their call of duty. I had just wanted a pointer to the need for software in their listing. 5* to them overall). If you do want the software, the SSD will be more expensive, I guess to cover the cost of Kingston bundling their cloning/disc management software with their SSD that you are buying. There are a few important things to note when cloning - the old and the new discs should be formatted the same, ie both MBR or both GPT. Likewise take care to expand the existing main storage that you are copying over to fill the unallocated space (the software will allow that) - otherwise you get a new SSD with the same size as the old one. The whole idea is to get a larger SSD!The other thing you will need is a cable to attach the disc to a USB3 outlet on your laptop so the cloning can be done. I instead bought an enclosure (about £10) which one can connect with a USB3 cable. I have, after doing the swap, put the old SSD into the enclosure which makes it a fast, external SSD for the now much expanded laptop.

Excellent for Zotac Zbox...superb value
I wanted to add additional storage to my Zotac Zbox and given the extremely form factor of these mini PC's, these machines will only accommodate 1 x SSD and 1 x mSATA.The drive is easy to install, it's quick and offers a lot of storage for a very small footprint and for the price paid represents excellent value for money.

Easy Install
I had recently purchased a mini PC and its original hard drive failed within two months of use. I purchased this hard drive which is very easy to install by slipping it into a slot and usually a screw or two to keep it in place. Make sure that the pc/laptop is not plugged into the mains when installing. Job done. This hard drive is running 24/7 for a server, it's very rugged and reliable with no moving parts. Well worth spending more money on this than a cheaper product from China.

Dead on arrival
Dead on arrival. I tried it in 2 different mSATA USB Caddies, and even directly to a Windows 10 PC. Couldn't be seen in Disk Management. Even my old Windows 7 PC detected it as a VLI Product String when it was fitted out in a USB caddy. I expected better from Kingston.

Great value - does the job
Does the job - installed in a very old laptop which now has way more storage than it could possible ever need!I can't comment on speeds - it feel as as fast as the old SSD - as there are other bottlenecks in the system. I haven't found myself waiting for things to happen anyway.
