Boys' Life Book of Outdoor Skills

I strongly urge anyone out there who enjoyed his time as a Boy Scout in the 40's, 50's, 60's, 70's or 80's to pick up a copy of this book. I would not have enjoyed my time in Scouts half as much without receiving my monthly copy of Boy's Life magazine. The news articles, project suggestions, comics, letters, fiction stories, skill development instructions, campfire stories and inspirational articles improved my Scouting days beyond description, and this book reprints some of the very pages that inspired me. When I finished it, my only disappointment was that there wasn't a complete set of the magazines from my years. I know, of course, that such a vast amount of reprints, 12 issues a year for 10 years = 120 magazines, is unrealistic. But nothing wrong with dreaming.

My son-in-law was an Eagle Scout and is getting ready to take his 5 and 4 year-olds on their first camping trip. They have been preparing and looking forward to it all winter. I remember how much I enjoyed Boy's Life when I was a kid and took a chance that the grandkids would, too. They just loved it! They report what they have learned from the various articles and are eager to try out their skills. Their dad loves it as much as I thought he would.

A nice hard cover collection of old articles. Enjoyable.

My son and I saw this book at the museum store in Philmont. He mentioned it constantly for since we got back in July A great Christmas / birthday present for that scout in your life.

My son first off is an Eagle Scout - his dad was in scouting for years and years and Treaurer of his tropp - and now my son is a Merit Bade Counselor and still involved in the day to day operation likewise in the camp every summer so the book brought back many many memories - well writeen and illustrated.

The book is great and in good shape. Disappointed in the visual aspect of the book because the jacket was not folded correctly causing it to look poor. While you can remove the jacket and the book looks the same, we prefer to be able to keep the jacket to protect the book.
