Geotagger N3 is the Solmeta third gap camera GPS with E-compass and compatible with Nikon GP-1. It provides latitude, longitude, altitude and Coordinated Universal Time (UTC) data output. With the supported cameras, GPS information will be directly embedded into the image's EXIF. Features Except provide basic GPS info to image as Nikon GP-1, Geotagger N3 has more features: 1. Fixed SPIRAL connection cable The big difference of N3 is the fixed connection cable design, each mode is specially for one type connection port. The spiral cable is soft and can be extended, it is beautiful, stable and very suitable for photography. 2. Built-in 3-aixs E-compass The 3-axis compass is better than 2-axis because of its accuracy. 3. Advanced GPS chipset Built-in MTK MT3339 which has 66 parallel searching and 22 tracking channels for a fast acquisition and reacquisition. Meanwhile, N3 works by less than 60mA from camera and also can be automatically powered up/down along with camera "exposure meter" function. 4. "Indoor fixed" function When you go indoor or to a place without GPS signal or GPS got blocked out, N3 will automatically reuse the last known position for tagging the subsequent images. 5. Unique "wake up and sleepping" working mode It is powered from Nikon camera directly. A special work mode applied for low power consumption and maximum latest GPS data using. Even on the status of camera's off, This working mode enable "camera off and GPS stays on" which is very convenient for user. Under that circumstance, user is able to gain much more new GPS data. 6. Support remote controller. Designed with a 2.5mm jack to pass through a remote trigger/shutter release signal. Warranty 2 Years manufacturer's warranty

Great geotagger for Nikon and Canon cameras - Doesn't work with Nikon D4
The Solmeta N3 is a GPS unit which attaches to a camera with an integrated cable and which writes the GPS co-ordinates of the camera into the EXIF (metadata) of the image as it is recorded. This is very useful if you want to place your images on a map such as google maps or in flickr.I had a Solmeta Geotagger N1 for a long time and it worked great. Unfortunately I lost the cable that connected it to the camera. So since I still wanted a geotagger I decided to buy a Solmeta N3. The N3 has an integrated cable so it cannot come lose from the unit which was always an issue with the N1. The N3 does not contain it's own battery and is powered by the camera's battery. This can lead to reduced battery life. This is not really an issue with Nikon's professional cameras (D3, D4, D5) but could be an issue with cameras using EN-EL15s. The N3 finds the GPS signal quickly if it is in an open area. Calibrating the compass is a bit of a faff but that's about the only bad thing I can find with the unit.If you want to geotag your images this is a great way to do it. Just make certain to buy the correct version for your camera as a 10-pin Nikon version won't fit all NIkon cameras and so on. Just pay attention when you purchase that you buy the version for your camera.Edit - I have tried two of these with my Nikon D4. In each case the unit connects with the camera and geotags images. So far all is as it should be. After approximately 3 minutes the Solmeat GPS shuts down (rest mode). It does this irrespective of the camera state (on/off/sleep). It will not come back to life when the camera is turned on. The only way to make the unit work again is to disconnect the 10-pin lead from the camera and re-attach/re-synch with the camera. This is not acceptable and this is not recommended for Nikon D4 or, presumably, earlier cameras. It does work well with my D500 so this may be Nikon messing with the GPS protocols. However other GPS units work on both my Nikons so Solmeta should do better to ensure forwards and backwards capability on all Nikon cameras. In their manual they say that the behaviour of the unit may differ with each camera but this is clearly unacceptable and the D4 should be removed from their camera compatibility list if this is the best they can do.

Works better than expected.
Purchased mine with Express DHL delivery. I received it in a week. I purchased it for my new Nikon D500. Unfortunately, Nikon doesn’t offer GPS as a feature and SnapBridge is useful for GPS most of the time but finicky. I did quite a bit of research and found the Solmeta seemed best suited for my needs and generally had good reviews. After I received it, installation was very easy. I went outside for the initial GPS connection. I had a green light within about twenty seconds. I left the camera on and used it for the next 24 hours both inside and outside my home. There was no issue maintaining a signal inside my home which is a two story brick home. The unit did not seem to drain the Nikon eatery much at all, a pleasant surprise. The cord linking to the camera is sturdy and screws onto the camera port without an issue. Today I removed the unit from my camera and reattached. The unit was able to grasp a signal inside my home. Of note is that when I Uploaded photos to my iphone, the city location was listed for the photos taken. Something I was hoping for while traveling.

I really like this unit! Minor nit: recorded altitude cannot be changed from meters.
Satellite lock-on time reasonable and consistent with my other GPS devices. Good direction accuracy after performing the 3-axis calibration. Calibration appears to be required each time the unit is plugged in to my camera. Light weight appreciated when I am already carrying a heavy camera and lens. Sleep modes work well and minimize camera battery drain. Note that the recorded direction can be significantly off when next to large iron structures. I believe this is due to the affect of the large mass of iron on the Earth's local magnetic field, and an issue that would impact any geo-tagger. Price is consistent with the features and quality. One minor issue: altitude recorded in meters and cannot be changed to feet. Also note that while the unit was listed as being shipped USPS, it took about a week before the unit was transferred to the postal system for delivery. Total time from order to delivery was 12 days.

Great GPS for my Nikon
I have Solmeta Geotaggers for both my Nikon D7100 and D810, each with different connectors since the cameras are different. Both have been consistently great performers with fast, accurate acquisition and recording. Not a lot of bells and whistles but really good GPS info. My only issue with the N3 is that the mounting is designed to slide onto the hot shoe and hold on via friction. The small flexible rails that help it stay on the camera are somewhat delicate and one has already broken. This causes the GPS to be "loose" on the hot shoe with no way to tighten or better secure it. I have contacted Solmeta but have not received any response. Otherwise.... great GPS

Extremely satisfied with the product and especially their service
The Solmeta Geotagger N3-a works perfectly on my Nikon D810. It acquires GPS satellite signals quickly and does not cause excessive camera battery drain. Started with a fully charged battery and shot pictures with VR nonstop for 12 hours. As an experiment, turned the camera off but left the N3-a plugged in for another 12 hours. I expected to find a dead battery but was pleasantly surprised to find 60% remaining. Extremely satisfied with the product. It even geotagged the pictures. Imagine that!UPDATE: After about four years during a trip to Cuba the N3-a cable began fraying which exposed the individual wires. Knowing it was long out of warranty I contacted Dauphinus in hopes of finding a solution. Dauphinus encouraged I contact Solmeta as they would quickly solve the issue. In short, a Torx T5 driver and pluggable replacement cable from Solmeta has my N3-a working like new.People have to realize things happen. I felt the excellent service provided by both Dauphins and Solmeta far overshadowed a broken cable. Thank you for standing behind you product. You earned each of the five stars.
