Can't recommend it highly enough
This book was recommended to me by a friend in seminary. While I am not a minister, I do counsel with people from time to time, and I found this book to be so revealing of how losses of all kinds affect people in ways that we do not often consider. I found myself crying while reading this because it revealed some areas in my own life that I had not realized had affected me so much. This book is well-written, and it is interesting right from the beginning. I found it to be an enjoyable read, not causing me to have to go back and re-read pages in order to process what I had read. I highly recommend this book for anyone in ministry, counseling, or even someone who often is that shoulder for others to lean on. Well worth reading.

Another solid older text on loss and grief
What is most helpful about All Our Losses, All Our Griefs, is their broad view toward loss throughout life, not simply the most obvious losses of death. Perhaps most poignant and surprising to some students is "intrapsychic" loss, which includes the loss that can accompany accomplishing a long term, identity grounding goal. Certainly helpful for new pastoral caregivers as a resource for expanding one's sense of scope of care.

Help in any loss
I have used this book with members of my congregation and studied it as a student. Everyone has said how much insight he/she gained by reading it. I found it most helpful when I lost my eyesight in one eye. We grieve for many things--not just death. Recently, however, I lost my husband. This book once again came to my rescue. I recommend it for all pastors and grief counselors. I also recommend it to anyone who has suffered any type of loss.

Essential
All Our Losses, All Our Griefs is a classic simply because it addresses the unique experience of grief for every individual, gives no quick or easy solutions to loss and emphasizes the life and support of community as vital for healing in times of loss.

Insightful book
My Pastoral Counseling professor recommended this book for a paper I was writing on grief and it was an excellent resource. Not too technical, it is a straightforward, easy read. The information presented is based upon a variety of psychological theories (Bowlby, Switzer, Kubler-Ross), but much of it seems like common sense. The book speaks from a Christian perspective but does not reference Scripture too much. A good basic book for equipping emotional caregivers with a deeper understanding of the grief experience.

Must have for grief work
Great book that gives sound research and theological support to what healthy grieving looks like and how we can walk through the grief we and others experience.

Handbook for Grief Management in Ministry and Personal Life
Mitchell writes authoritatively and compassionately aboutThe many layers and facets of grief. Recommended by Melissa Kelley, this book did not disappoint...should be required reading for anyone in Pastoral Care or grief ministry.

Wonderful book for anyone - lay person or pastor
wonderful book. I understand loss much better and now know that it doesn't have to be a death - maybe a family member not being able to carry their usual role in the family or a change of residences, etc.

Five Stars
I have already reported back on this once. Yes. It did.

eye-opening
Losses and griefs tend to filter down to death and dying. However, there are other losses that cause us grief: divorce, lost dreams, etc. This little book will open your eyes to the feelings and thoughts behind our losses. Excellent book.
