Excellent quality poles for a good price.
Had to buy a new set of poles since I recently lost my old set of Black Diamonds. A replacement set of BD poles would have been $200, and I wasn’t wanting to spend that much. Found this Montem set for $90 and was intrigued by the much better price for a very similar set of poles. I figured I’d give them a shot and at worst they’d become my backup set. Tried them out for the first time on a couple of Colorado 14ers this past week, and they were great. Very lightweight, yet very sturdy. Comfortable grip.Make sure you tighten the screw for the fliplocks ahead of time, because you’d never get them tight enough with your fingers, but once I used a screwdriver at home, they held perfectly. You can still adjust the length while hiking using just the fliplocks.Overall, I’m very happy with these poles, especially at this price.

Very good hiking poles
I had a set of EMS aluminum poles over 20 years old. One died right before a trip, and I needed a replacement quickly. After doing some research, I purchased these poles. I was concerned because I had never used a carbon pole, and I didn't have a chance to try them out.Very happy with this purchase. They are very light and very sturdy. The handles are very comfortable. They collapse nicely and fit in luggage easily (I don't know about carry-on, but I didn't need a monster duffel bag to accommodate them.) The extension/retraction is a little stiff but not enough to drop a star. The clamps (or whatever they are) need some adjustment depending on how much the pole is extended. This is a one-time adjustment unless the poles will be shared between people of markedly different heights. They also come with plastic feet that can fit over the metal ends.In fairness to folks reading this review, my use case is that I am a bit older and don't climb steep mountains anymore. I do walk on rough terrain and moderate slopes. The poles are used primarily for balance and modest offloading of body weight when ascending or descending. I'm around 5'5" and not overweight.Definitely recommend.

They work.
The pole adjustments work well. Took a bit of trial and error but when secured there's no slippage when my weight is on the pole.I'm walking in rough desert terrain which is seldom flat. I rely on my poles to assist on steep ascents and descents and trekking narrowledges on hillsides. The montem poles perform admirably. They weigh next to nothing and if I decide I only want the one pole I can close up the unusedpole and either place it in my pack or hang it from my belt loop.Only criticism is I should prefer the thickness of the hand grips to be slightly thicker, (old pole was 1/4" thicker which feels better for my hands). This, however, has not been an issue out in the hills.

Sturdy, reliable
I've used these trekking poles on three backpacking trips so far, and they've held up great through all the trail conditions I encountered -- dry, muddy, rocky, hot, cold. I also use the trekking poles to set up my tent, and they've work well for that application too. Happy with the purchase.

OK I’m sold on poles !
After hiking for several months all over varying terrain i went down the YouTube trail to see what these poles are all about. I’ll be honest, I thought it was something “ older “ hikers used and didn’t think much about them ( even though I’m older now hahah ) then saw how many hikers used them of all ages and the data on how they help save your knees and you can cover more ground easily and quicker with more stability . I have trashed ankles and use high boots for this reason so yeah I’ve fallen a few times in the past before I used high boots. Anyhooo , I researched and decided on these because they seemed like a good price point and potentially durable. I used them for the first time today and did a 4 mile climbing up and down in rock and broken up , hard crusted mud , super dry area. First hill I already realized I liked them. I also can see how you cover more on flat land because they propel you with ease. I do like how I now can use my upper body for a full work out . Going down hill I still need some work on , doesn’t feel as natural to use them but I know there are benefits to learning .I will update this review only if anything changes but I really love how light they are and how easy they are to throw in my back pack .
