This is probably the safest Sim related purchase
You might be wondering if you should buy Sims 3 or 4. I played Sims 2 a long ago for class inexplicably. At the time my own PC wouldn't have run it and my laptop could barely run Spore which was the game I preferred playing at the time. I liked it but I didn't get to dig my teeth in for very long and moved onto other things. Now I've come around to playing it but it's almost been a decade since it's release and 3 and 4 are now out. I bought it after remembering the controversy of the Sims 3 release and Sims 4 looking dour (and it is, they really gutted it for those future expansion packs) so I just went to buy Sims 2 as I have played it once before. For one thing, I got double deluxe for some reason. I thought I was getting Vanilla Sims 2 but it was Double Deluxe. No real idea but it's a full game plus Double Deluxe so I'm not complaining. There was one problem though. After installing the game it would crash at the startup launcher. This wasn't very good in fact it was very bad. What happened is that the Sims 2 community website hosted by EA is now dead. It has been replaced by Sims 4 community website instead. The launcher literally living in the past is struck with the passage of time and crashes in an attempt to load something that didn't exist when it was relevant. You aren't sunk. Assuming you've averted the compatibility problems (troubleshoot compatibility mode with a right click on the application software OR install a 32 bit operating system which will run software as old as windows 95 without fault on a windows 7 computer) you just need to bypass the silly launcher and access the actual software activator icon which is buried in the folders in your local installation of the Sims 2.Here is a video displaying for you the actions needed to do such a thing successfully. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SjpCYSLTBKcYou might notice that you don't have some of the exact folders that he showed in that video. I don't know what the reason is or if it's even relevant to anyone else but me but if you go for the similar titled folder and search for the exact things you'll still get the right icon. You just have to be close enough in the right aspects I suppose. Let me know if it doesn't work out I'll help you out.About the game itself? Well in comparison to the future installments it's pretty solid. You can build community lots and houses. You have a good amount of options for customization but you'll need to mod it to get custom hair and such in the game and it's graphically pretty, well; the newer games might entice you more visually, I keep hearing negative things but this game is old and sort of blocky by today's standards so it may be more personal preference than anything really definitive. Maybe watch videos of the games to get a good idea? You can roleplay as a single person looking to make it big with lots of friends and lots of money, You can be a couple looking to create a huge family that extends long past their lifeline. And you can create neighborhoods for them to live in, all of this sort of fluctuates back and forth in being present in the future Sim installments. 4 has the least but it's not nearly as hard to do what's actually left for you to do. Sims 3 has the most things intact but your mileage may vary with the lack of control in creating your own neighborhood and the fact that characters auto run themselves and age when you aren't playing them. Maybe that will make things more immersive. Maybe that strips control away from you.You decide. I think "You decide" is the best way to observe this critique. Consider this review and the fact that this game will just be fairly unadvanced in comparison to how tight the AI and options will be to future installments. What are the future installments like in detail? What the LazyGameReviewer for more details. Good customer service
Maybe I'm being easy, but i bought this used and there was a cute note to reach out and they will try to help troubleshoot before refunding. I appreciated that extra step to know they'd help first. Luckily set up was easy as if brand new and everything was fine.

3D Sims are alive!
The Sims 2 is the sequel to The Sims 1. This is the base game. The Sims 2 takes your world of Sims to a whole new level. The Sims 1 was all isometric camera angles, while this game is in full 3D. You have full control over your characters, and they go through many life stages. You can have babies, toddlers, teenagers, adults, and elders. The game has many options from buy mode, build mode, you can share your work and the game runs very well even on older computers. If you enjoy the Sims , you will really love this game, and in my opinion, I find this game better than the Sims 1, 3, or 4!

The Sims 2 Rocks
As you can see... I'm from the future 2011. Ha. I had the Sims 2 on ps2 when it first came out and had never played the pc game. I was watching videos of it on youtube and saw how fun it is... I had to get it even if it's outdated. One thing that sets it back from the ps2 version: They can have kids! That's what got me.The only bad thing about this game is there aren't many cool items in clothing, hair styles, even household items... I think it's because they want you to buy the stuff packs and expansions. I think I'll do that since they are low in price now.Another thing that irks me is how hard it is to build a house. I didn't get the manual and the game doesn't explain how. Mainly the roofs bother me because I've never built a two-story house with a roof on Sims. So I'm a newbie... But I'll get it eventually.Oh yeah and I hate that you cannot customize an existing family. Like, take the Goth family and change their looks and even their names and give them more family members and stuff. :) but oh well.

Daughter seems content with it... more or less.
I bought it for my 9 year old daughter, who DESPERATELY wanted it despite already having sims3. Why did she want it? I have no idea, but she seems pretty happy with it overall... (even if she has since moved her gaming focus more back to minecraft...)
