I love his work both as image maker
Carlo Molino was a magnificent photographer and a eccentric figure in the last decade.I love his work both as image maker, designer and architect, and this book by Taschen, with the Polaroids, is beautiful, very well printed, though I would love the images to be a little larger on the page.Nevertheless the book is a wonderful approach to his singular visual universe, that is really unique.

One mans very boring peccadillo.
Mollino's secret and dark obsession might in itself be very interesting (the very idea of it) but the reality is one really very boring book. The repetition is mind numbing. A thousand girls pulling the same poses in the same spots around an apartment you can barely see (it's the space that should be the star of the show - after all, he built it for him and them in mind). The sheer tedium of this book is of course infused with the abject sadness that finds women in such numbers feeling compelled (or more likely paid) to do this. Yes, it's exploitative (this is after all from another time) but that makes it no less bleak or any more interesting, nor nearly dark enough to be truly furtive or exciting. Google a few of his Polaroids online and you have the full picture.
