This thing really works!
I installed (DIY) this waterpower sub-pump backup system in 2017. I never really knew if it would work when the time came. Last night, we had a heavy rain storm and the electricity went out for about 4 hours. This water-powered backup sump pump kicked in and worked like a charm!!! BTW, a couple of my neighbor's 12V battery backup systems didn't work. Am I happy with the product? You bet!

Great backup sump pump.
Great little backup pump. My basement gets a significant amount of water during heavy rains. Our basement flooded twice on our old 1/3hp pump due to it not being able to pump out as much water as was coming in. I now have a 3/4 hp pump that is more than capable along with the Basepump. The Basepump is powerful enough to clear the sump crock during moderate rain, but it wouldn't be enough to stop a flood in a heavy rain. Even in a heavy rain though, it does give more time for the power to come back on before you would flood.Installation was easy, the "plastic" parts are solid and well made. I agree with others on the bulkyness of the float switch....this should be redesigned. One important thing to consider, these types of pumps are not failure proof. If a fitting breaks, or the float switch fails to shut off the pump after the crock is emptied, you are essentially turning on a garden hose and letting it run. A neighbor of mine a few doors down had his pump go on (not this brand) during a power outage and it failed to shut off, it was a week and a half later before he noticed it which resulted in an $1,800 water bill. Because of this, these types of water powered backup pumps are against many city's building code. Certainly utilize the alarm that comes with the pump and set it so that it goes off BEFORE the pump does and make sure you check that it properly shuts off when its finished pumping. And its always a good idea to test it (along with your main pump) monthly.

Not as easy to install as advertised
Our plumber recommended this pump as he believes that it is one of the best on the market available and has installed over 30 of them and said they are the most reliable pump sold. When installing the pump, several of the fittings from the factory leaked and he had to disassemble and re-do some of the gaskets. As a homeowner that is fairly handy with plumbing installations, I would have not been able to complete this work myself as I didn't have the specialty tools required to correct the factory faults.Although full instructions were provided, I recommend a certified plumber install this water backup system.

Great for Sumps with RADON mitigation system!
Our Radom mitigation system is tapped into our French drains which means it’s imperitive we have a tight seal over the sump basin... I was struggling to find the answer for a water powered back-up sump that would allow a tight seal —- without a tremendous amount of Gerry-rigging... Came across this basepump system and it is EXACTLY what we needed... The basepump allows us to run just one extra PVC pipe down from the cieling mounted pump into the sump basin which allows for multiple fairly easy options to seal the pit — such as (but not limited to) the various sump basin covers to choose from with dual holes and flexible hole locations, etc...As far as functionality... all I can say is that through testing during and after installation the unit worked exactly as it was supposed to...Installation went pretty smooth... A lot of time was taken up because my plumber - who is also my father in law - was not familiar with this system (as I feel most would not be) and there was a lot to read over (and he reads it all)...We did have a leakage problem at first, which seemed like it might be a big problem... The main circular black valve (just past the blue shut off valve in the direction of the water flow) was leaking a decent amount each time we ran the pump initially (I believe this issue has been identified in other posts)... we had to take that piece apart and tighten some internal gizmos (sorry I am not up on the appropriate jargon, just a spectator/helper) and then it worked without issue.

Quick and easy install for a money saving "backup" sump pump!
This water powered "backup" sump pump is a money saver if you have a basement with a crock for proper drainage. As a secondary emergency pump it is well worth the money. You may lose power, but you will never lose city water pressure! After having my basement flood and paying thousands of dollars to clean it up and repair damages I would gladly pay the additional water costs due to this pump running all day to keep my basement dry during a power outage.I installed this device in about 2 hours time. Taking time to properly measure, fabricate and install. I used PEX tubing to run my water lines from the main copper line and added a few SHARKBITE fittings to help with the tighter bends. It took me no time at all to run and connect the PEX tubing. PEX tubing is the safest, easiest and cheapest route to go when installing this pump. PEX tubing also helps lesson the water hammering some people complain about when this pump shuts off.I do have to recommend that if you are tying the 1 inch discharge from this pump into a dedicated drainage pipe that your primary pump is flowing into that you should remove the vacuum breaker upon install. I found that the discharge water would backflow through the 1 inch tubing for the pump and then spray out through the vacuum breaker. You should add a SHARKBITE check valve in the vacuum breakers place on the main water line to the pump to help prevent backflow issues.
