GETTY PUBLICATIONS HAS OUTDONE ITSELF!
There have been quite a number of books and articles dealing with the relationship between Ancient Egypt and the world of Greece and that of the Roman Empire. But none can compare with the shear size (10x12) and grandeur of this voluminous book. Comprising 344 pages of text and illustrations, this is both an art history & history book. The illustrations cover a vast array of objects - from alabaster sculpture to papyrus fragments, vase painting, portrait sculpture, relief sculpture, a massive stele, mosaic art, Roman mummy portraits, Egyptian deities in marble, a Roman Emperor in stone, coins, etc. The imagery and the materials used seem limitless, covering a period from the mid-1500s BC to the first century AD. The text is detailed and there is a massive 27 page, double column Bibliography. More than 50 Contributors have added their scholarship to the wealth of visual material, all of which is in color! The price is less than two non-illustrated books on fiction these days and is well worth it for so many reasons. A mere 40 years ago, no one could have imagined the significant contact and artistic output resulting thereof from the interaction of the aforementioned civilizations. And remember - this is only what has been found so far or just survived compared to what was originally produced. See how the Land of the Pharaohs and the Classical World influenced each other to create new art forms, many of which were based upon older motifs, imagery, and methodology.

Fantastic Introduction to Aegyptiaca and Egyptian/Greek/Roman interactions
This elegantly designed book shows the history of Egyptian and Graeco-Roman interactions, and how over the course of several hundred years, Egyptian iconography became intrinsically related to the self-presentation of Roman emperors. Wonderful contributions by prominent scholars in the field.
